Trade in iPhone 4 and pay £169 for Galaxy S3?

You'll probably find it's sheep who buy Android phones nowadays and the people who are no longer interested in fiddling around who buy iPhones, I've had all sorts of Android phones, an HTC Tattoo, HTC Apollo, HTC Desire, Galaxy, Galaxy S2 and spent countless hours rooting, installing all manner of roms, themes for roms, (then having to re-odin an official release when it all goes pear-shaped) and it gets boring so I opted for a 4s, no CTD's, good call quality, good network coverage, great apps and I don't look like Count Nerdula carrying around a tablet sized phone in my pocket.

Good for you! :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Just like most of the good high end - medium end android phones then :)

Hardware wise, the S3 wipes the floor with the iPhone 4 (except for premium feel/general looks).

Software wise, it's Android vs iOS personal preference. If you like Android, it's worth it. Neither is better, they are different.

It's no good people saying "my girlfriend likes Android more", because that's 100% subjective and doesn't really help you at all.

It is if people give reasons why, which is why I asked him to expand on why his girlfriend prefers Android. To be honest, I'm honestly not sure where I stand right now. The choice is made even harder with a possible iPhone 5 announcement, Apple always have a special evil ability to make you feel like your current phone is inferior because they always introduce some feature you think you need!

Honestly, you should go play with the S3 and see how good it is. Don't rely on peoples opinions in this thread too much.

Wow, Cuchulain has ruffled a few feathers in here. :D

That's what happens when someone makes an attempt at subtle trolling as you can see with no information backing up his opinions and little to or no relevance for what the OP asked..

I love it when a few of "them" come from the "dark side" of the forum :p for a bit and post something in this sub-forum, as it is guaranteed that they will always post the same BS (more or less) every time :p Makes me giggle :D

Very vaguely:

Reasons Android is better:

Better choice of hardware
Far more customisable software
No reliance on iTunes to function properly
Everything is integrated better for things like sharing

Reasons iOS is better:

More uniform feel
More stable in general
Flows nicely, though that's a result of the simplistic nature of it
The apps are still of a higher standard generally
Apple support is far better than any Android manufacturer

Personally I like both and would be happy with either. They both get the job done nicely. Obviously what I've said is very vague but it's entirely personal preference and I understand why people like one more than the other. The reason I don't use an iPhone at the moment is because the screen is just too small now. 4.3-4.8" is better.

There won't be an iPhone 5 available for a good 3 months or so at least, so you'll be able to see if you get on with the S3 or not. If not, get the new iPhone. There will be nothing on the new iPhone that makes you regret having an S3, that's for sure.

We can't tell you what you'll prefer. Some people hate one and love the other, and vice versa.

Thanks for that. I think what I'll miss from iPhone is the support, the ability to go into an Apple store and get an immediate replacement is a big plus. Does anyone know if iPhones decrease in value as soon as the new one is announced? Or is it only when it goes on sale do prices drop? I haven't been in this position in the past so i've never really looked.

The official price drops when the Apple store has the new iPhone available to pre-order, which is usually an hour or so after the announcement (or less).

If you're talking about selling it second hand, the price will drop quite a bit around the announcement, but usually not too dramatically.

Well what I was thinking of doing was waiting till the iPhone 5 announcement, then if it's nothing special I'll trade my phone in and get a Galaxy 3. But obviously in that case i'll have to pay more for the Galaxy (compared to if I trade it in now) as the trade in price for my iPhone will have dropped. So I have to decide whether it's worth the risk.

catch 22, thats why i went for a lower spec phone than the S3 (galaxy note) as if i want to sell it i wont lose too much on what i payed for it.

as Robbo has said pop into a shop and have a play with the s3 and others and see how you like it

you still have some time left before any announcement so the price of your phone should still be ok

just so you know the going rate at the moment for a as new sim free s3 on forums is about £400.
