Train Journey Help

Im just wondering with some of you who have train experience,

im looking for a train journey from Chester to Essex

its a long journey, and i know Essex is a big place, and i also know there could be a few different rail/train changes, but im looking for a estimate on how much i will be looking at for a return journey.

Not for a price but so you can get all your journey options go to www.wymetro.com then use the journey planner. Pick your best route for times and such then find the train company/ticket agent for the price.

Best case. Make sure you book the ticket as early as possible to ensure the best possible fare.

Or try www.thetrainline.com and that will tell you all the different price options you need to know for your journey.

Yep, thetrainline.com will tell you times and fares... although I do find their site to be very user-unfriendly and the results somewhat erratic (different results for same search done minutes apart, etc...)

If you do look at one of the online service I would then say go and have a talk to your local stations ticket office. I've had several times ended up paying less as they have come up with different options than those given in the online results, (for example I'm going to London for the day in two weeks and asking in the station ended up with me paying ~10% less than the cheapest I'd found online).

To make things cheaper, and/or easier, you might want to consider getting yourself to Crewe as your starting point, rather than Chester.
