Hi all,
Have searched numerous forums for this, and although i have found answers, they are mostly about dual booting, which i have no intention of doing.
Basically, built new PC listed in sig, giving old one to my dad. However, i want the old SATA hard-drive from it and a lot of the files, (probably about 30gb worth of music/save games/movies,etc), as i just have the 74gb raptor at the moment.
However, it has Windows XP installed on it and my PC is Vista. So can i do this:
1) Goto security settings on HD/Folders i want through old PC and set to public or shared.
2) Plug old SATA drive into new mobo as a second drive
3) Vista recognises the old XP Hard-drive.
4) I access the files on the old XP drive in new PC and transfer the ones i want to my new raptor drive.
5) Format old XP drive in Vista to be used as a file storage drive.
6) Move files from raptor to back onto it again.
I'll move the old drive down the pecking order in boot settings in BIOS so it doesn't try booting XP of course. Should this be possible? Only issue i forsee is driver/OS file conflicts, though the files i want are merely media ones.
I'm really hoping i don't have to use a USB stick to do this and seems a waste of time as i'll be using this HD anyway after, the ONLY problem being XP is installed as an OS on it.
Thanks.
