It's going to be interesting to see the profile of striker we go after. I think too many people are wanting something that doesn't exist, a first class centre forward that can cover Sturridge but is also great out wide when Sturridge is fit. I tell a lie, one of them does exist but we just sold him to Barca.

With Sterling, Coutinho, Lallana and Markovic we've got enough wide/creative players not to get too hung up on wanting another Suarez type striker. Our focus should be on getting the best possible centre forward cover for Sturridge, if he happens to be versatile too then that's a bonus.

If we're going to be playing with just 1 up top for the most part then 3 strikers is ok providing they're all reliable. Previously I said I'd like another attack mid/winger too but watching Ibe in preseason I think I've changed my mind. Unless we bring in somebody absolutely top class then I'd rather he was given a shot.

Certainly going to be interesting to see how we line up. Gerrard and Sturridge are going to start most games and you've got to class Henderson and Sterling as first team players now. That just leaves two places for Lallana, Coutino, Markovic and A. N. Other.

4-2-3-1

Gerrard, Allen/Henderson

Lallana/Sterling, Coutinho/Sterling, Markovic/Sterling

Sturridge

4-3-3

Henderson, Gerrard, Lallana

Sterling, Sturridge, Markovic?

I can certainly see your point, but just not convinced yet. As you say will be interesting.

Will also be interesting to see if we target a keeper now Reina is off. Personally think we should just go for Begovic. Only 2 years left on his contract.

18mil for a 29 year old who hasn't scored more than 12 goals in all competitions since 03/04 season?

That would surely appease the fans. :p

Just don't get it :/ Im pleased we have the players we signed though I'm not happy with how we seem to be dragging out deal to get monreo and the fact we don't seem to have a striker lined up, I don't want a situation again were we wait till Jan window to get the players we needed from the start. Personally think we shouldn't of loaned Origi back should have stayed with us since aspas left and borini going by looks of it

Surely if Liverpool go after a top class striker, he'll want to be playing week in week out, not be a backup for Sturridge?

so a lone striker formation wouldn't work would it?

VidalON according to Sky Italia.

More importantly the Chile NT manager Sampaoli has said LvG is awaiting assurances over his knees. Fee talked about is £47.5m according to Sampaoli.

Yeah, they're quoting 'sources close to the player' - he's told them he's planning on leaving.

I can't handle this. :(

I fully understand that but we will be in 4 comps and we can't rely on sturridge to get us through them all I also don't think his fitness would hold up having hamstring issue before season has even started is not good if striker situation stayed as it is we will really struggle imo

Pogba then? Once again my mind is going back to 2012 when Fergie sat on his rear and watched Bayern take Javi Martinez. How much money and stress would United of saved in 2012 by paying both thier buyout clauses at the same time?

Not to mention how much hassle Martinez and Herrera would have been bossing for us. Strootman has a knee injury too by the way, And Fletcher is still ill sort of. Pogba seems to be the only fit DM we are looking at lol.

Dont actually think Utd are really looking at Pogba, its SUCH an unlikely prospect.

SAF may have lost some / most of his power in the boardroom after the Moyes experiment, but he is still around the place a great deal and I just cant see the player ever agreeing to come back (and just imagine the astronomic price Juve would ask for if Vidal is going to cost ~£50m)

....4-2-3-1

Gerrard, Allen/Henderson ...

When will people learn. You can't play Gerrard in a 2, certainly not at this stage of his career and certainly not without Mascherano alongside him.

While I suspect 4-3-3 will be our favoured formation I think we'll still play with a diamond in midfield, allowing us to play 2 up front, a fair few times. With the extra games and Sturridge prone to the odd knock, whoever comes in will feature enough even if they're ultimately seen as cover.

Yeah, Gerrard needs two men in there with him definitely. I think Rodgers will play Lallana in there instead of Coutinho and push Coutinho/Markovic up into the wide no 10 role.

------Gerrard------
Lallana-----Henderson

Sterling----Coutinho
------Sturridge-------

pretty formidable attack..

Can chop and change that about as well with two up front (sturridge/Lambert) with Stirling/Coutinho in the hole. Either way, your attack is still incredibly potent with a lot of skill and speed. You just need some of the other players to stand up this season rather than allowing Suarez to do it. 5 out of the 6 are english, quality!
