United close in on Borussia Dortmund star Ilkay Gundogan: Manchester United "are sure they have won the £25million battle" for Germany’s Ilkay Gundogan, according to the Daily Star on Sunday. The paper says that David Moyes believes the Borussia Dortmund playmaker is the most likely of his midfield targets to move to Old Trafford this summer. Dortmund are ready to cash in on the 23-year-old in the summer as he will only have one-year left on his contract.

Drogba back at Chelsea?

Drogba could be in line for Chelsea return: Didier Drogba is considering rejoining Chelsea when his contract with Galatasaray expires in June according to Duncan Castles in the Sunday Times. The paper says Drogba has been offered the chance to start his coaching career under Jose Mourinho and to join the first-team squad as a back-up striker and that Roman Abramovich, the Chelsea owner, has sanctioned the approach. While the MLS remains interested in taking him to America this summer, Drogba is assessing the option of a move to Chelsea.

Paper Round's view: The story is written by Duncan Castles who is known to have close links to Jose Mourinho so there must be at least some grain of truth in it. The key phrase could be 'back-up' striker. If Drogba did move it is hard to imagine him settling for this tag and few would back against him cementing a place in the side even at the age of 35. After big money spells in China and Turkey, Drogba might prefer to remain the undisputed top dog at an MLS franchise but a return to Chelsea certainly provides an intriguing alternative.

I think Gundogan is brilliant but his recent back injury is a concern, could cause long term problems for him. :(

I saw Didi Hamann talking about him and his injury earlier today and from what he was saying it doesn't seem too good. He said there was no info coming out of Dortmund about him as nobody really knows what's wrong or if/when he'll be back.

Yeah, I remember. Assuming he'll be okay then we should do all we can to get him, but I doubt we'll be alone in trying to sign him. Back injuries can be a bit difficult to predict and diagnose, which is a concern.

Yep just ask Arsenal when they signed Kallstrom on loan and he ends up cant playing for us due to a micro fracture in his back:p

There are rumours that he has actually recovered from the back injury and is now suffering from bronchitis, but that was about a month ago so I would hope he should be back playing relatively soon (there are some links around about him completing some training sessions with team mates in early Jan)

Not sure why, but Real are reported to have 1st refusal.

Providing it's not hugely serious, the injury might prove useful in your attempts to sign him.

If you are to miss out on the CL and there were a big market for him it would be hard to see him joining you over Real for example. The injury might clear the path for you though if you're willing to take a bit of a gamble.

Barcelona's paper 'sport' say we've put in an offer for Song. :p

I don't think he's too bad so wouldn't mind if he was cheap. I know DM hates him though.

You can have diaby too if you want? He's a good player when he plays...just he does play very often... I think song might have played the same amount of games in the last 12 months :D

No thanks. :p

Diaby is a crock, Song just isn't better than Busquets so doesn't play much.

It'd be awesome. Chelsea with zero English players.

I don't understand why people are precious about football teams fielding English players anyway. Yes, we need to improve at international level but that aside there really is zero reason as to why clubs should be forced to use X amount of home grown player. Do we force international banks to do the same thing, or do they just employ the best candidate for the role despite their background?
