I spend about £40 now, and I tend to walk quite a bit, weather permitting, so it could be less. I am fortunate to work close to home these days, but used to spend in excess of £200 last year due to greater distances and an awkward office location.
 
I've a 207 desiel, averages about 55 mpg on the runs I do, I figure I spend around £120 a month on fuel for commuting. Then add tax, insurance, services, mot and depreciation. As a % I figure 85% of the cars miles are commuting currently. If i kept the car for 5 years which is quite likely seeing as it is 4.5yrs old now, I reckon it'll average out costing me around £300 a month all in for the commute to work, and about £50 a month for domestic travel.

I don't pay for parking at work, or that would be a whole chunk more.
 
Not sure if the next question should be asked in Motors but it's related to this topic...

At the moment i drive a 1.4l Citroen C2 and the MPG on the motorway is terrible. I don't drive like a crazy lunatic and tend to cruise at about 75 depending on the flow of the traffic. I drive 45 miles per day (22.5 there and 22.5 back)

Would getting a better car with a bigger engine give me more MPG and in turn save me ££ or would it actually cost me more?
