It's the time where I try and lose some weight after chrismas. I'm thinking of getting a treadmill. Are they the best things to lose some one weight?

If not, what is?

Thanks.

Exercise and better eating will help you lose weight, building muscle will also help you lose weight (well blubber) as your body burns more energy doing the same thing.

It's like cars with bigger engines, they use more fuel than smaller cars doing the same speed.

I have one and I have hardly used it.. I think I foolishly thought by owning one I'd be more inclined to use it and become healthy.

So wrong ;)

I would suggest that you get a decent pair of running trainers and jog locally, it is no where near as expensive.. but the weather can be a problem!

Excuse much? :p

Ice and these hurricane, stormy, hail stones conditions we experience all year around in the UK make it nearly impossible to go for a run!

OK you got me! :D :p

hahaa :D

Don't forget the 6 feet of snow.

No one likes to go out in Sinfin. :D

thanks all. I'm on about getting a electric one. If they ain't any good then ain't no point.

Get yourself a decent pair of trainers first of all. Have a look at your local gym situation, work schedule and diet.

Then post in the Sports sub section about what you should be doing. :)

I've been training to do marathons/half marathons for 10 years on a treadmill in the garage and then when it gets warmer I go on the road.
Over the last year I've done no running but got back into it 1 month ago but my treadmill decided to die:(
I looked around and found this place -

Restyle Fitness in Wakefield and they sell refurbished Nordictracks - http://www.nordic-track.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_-11_11851_12702_19006_34851

A review here - http://www.treadmill-running-machine-review.co.uk/nordictrack_C2500_treadmill_review.html

I can't tell you how good this machine is but :
* 2.5 HP DurX™ Commercial Plus Motor
* 0-12 MPH Precision 1-Touch™ Speed
* 0% to 12% Quick Incline™
* 20" x 60" Running Treadbelt
* DuraSoft V™ Adjustable Cushioning
* 325-lb. Weight Capacity
* Club-Design CardioGrip™ Heart Rate Monitor
* 16 iFit® Weight Loss and Classic Workouts
* Grafixx™ Hi-Resolution Display
* Training Zone Indicator
* Interplay™ Universal iPod® Dock
* Competition Training Centre
* iFit® Fitness Journal
* CoolAire™ Workout Fan
* iFit® Workout Card Technology
* AirLight™ Shock with Self-Locking Latch
* Lifetime Frame, 10 year motor and two year on site manufacturers parts and labour warranty

The programmes on it are amazing and every day since I've had it (2 weeks today) I run against 4 computer generated characters over 3 miles.
You can see them from above on a 3 mile track and from the side - the display is excellent.
I've already shifted a stone and gone down 2 holes on my belt (over the last month).

I'll post pics later of the display.
It cost £495 (refurbished) but it's one of the best buys I've made.
