Well after many years of swearing that the hassle wasn't worth it i finally decided to build not get pre-built. I do know one end of a pc from another and have built systems/upgraded them for mates but always like to avoid the stress of making my own but hey, thats another paragraph. So off i go, research away, browse the net, chat to those that i know that 'know' etc etc and come up with a reasonable shopping list of parts...the cornerstone of which are the A8N 32 delux, two 7900 GT's and a nice shiny ASUS physics card. My mate had the premium and two 6800's with arctic coolers on so they were similar sizes etc.
Thanks to the amazing service of OcUK i get the bits mere milliseconds after ordering them, well last saturday to be precise and came to the amazing discovery that ASUS may want to check out...they don't [insert swear word/s of choice] well fit! I can have the two 7900's in SLI OR one 7900 and the P1 but try and get the second one in there and its quart into a pint pot time!
I recon if i could shave 2-3 mm off the P1 fan then it wouldn't press on the heat sink spring pin clips on the back of the 7900, thus pushing it slightly out of alignment and causing the PC to shut down as soon as the desktop appears. I have to ask ASUS why they have changed the layout of the premium to the deluxe, why they advertise it as SLI ready and sell a physics card you can't fit in if you do set it up to SLI etc etc and whats the best way of getting rid of a nasty stress headache?
To be fair to OC though their tech support are great, they guys i have talked to through some of the niggly problems in the build are fantastic and genuinly sounded sorry for the predicament....but the solution will be through as a saturday delivery tomorrow...so i might be a tad happier then...as for now GRAW and Oblivion on one card are <understatement> just about passable</understatement>
