My Mam is heading to Barcelona this weekend and was wondering if its an expensive place to visit, particularly with the Pound being weak against the Euro .

Anyone been here before and have any useful words of wisdom for me?

Thanks

i was surprised how easy it was to wonder off the main street by one alley, to end up surrounded by prostitutes and coke dealers

and yes, it's kinda expensive especially when £=€ !

Barcelona is not really expensive as such, it is just the the pound is weak. There are some great tapas joints there where you can eat for cheap. However, to actually order something you are best off learning some Catalan.

I went last year and was buying simple dishes such as patatas a lo pobre, pa amb tomaquet and so on for about £1.50 in a place called Thales in Barri Gòtic. The guys who worked there did not speak English but some of the menu was translated. Try the sea urchin and squid in ink.

Had no trouble with pick pockets but I have heard it is quite bad along Las Ramblas.

Fantastic city.

I don't think its particular expensive.. it's like anywhere to be honest.

Pick pocket wise I've never had any trouble, although the last time I was there I accidentally left my brand new N95 in the back of a taxi :( Quite funny how when I mentioned it to the person who booked the taxi for me from the hotel seemed to forget how to speak English, when the night before we had been speaking fine. All on the rob tbh.
