hello.
im currently trying to fix my dad's internet connection. i was using it a couple of days ago and it just suddenly stopped working, mid-use. So I plugged the ethernet cable into my PC (which im writing on now), set the LAN tcp/ip settings to be automaticaly assigned and it's working fine. so i looked at the ip address, subnet mask, default gateway and dns and manually put them into the LAN tcp/ip settings of my father's pc. it says that the local area network is connected but only sends packets and does not receive any. attempting to access the internet brings up an error page (in both opera and IE).
I tried to repair the connection. on my pc it says there is nothing wrong but on my father's it says there is a problem registering with the DNS. i've googled that problem but haven't found any suitable solutions.
any help would be much appreciated.
edit: btw it's NTL 1meg broadband.
