My sister has a 3 weeks holiday booked for Thailand starting next week, would this sorta news worry you in any way? Or make you change your holiday plans a tad?

Many poor countries appreciate the benefits of tourism. As a result, often tourists are protected from the internal strife facing many poor areas.

For example, in Morocco plain-clothes 'tourist police' will arrest anyone vaguely manacing to foreigners in tourist areas

You'll be as safe in Thailand as you are anywhere tbh (except from amusing ladyboy incidents).

The violence in the region has killed more than 2,200 people since 2004.

Yeah I guess as she'll be totally doing the tourist stuff, won't even have time to end up some place dodgy! But was fun winding her up this morning over it!

I was in Bangkok about a week after the military coup last year and we saw absolutely no evidence of it whatsoever. There were some reports of violence and stuff in the south then too. Just fyi
