True Grit (11th Feb)

Quirky with some dark humour, it certainly has the Coen brothers feel but I can't help thinking it would have been more awesome played totally straight like No Country.

It was a little bit "Oh Brother where art thou" for me...

7/10

Hailee Steinfeld definitely deserves an Oscar for her performance. Well worth seeing, makes me want to play through Red Dead Redemption again.

LOL I said the same thing in the cinema - quite enjoyed it, mumbling Bridges got boring/obvious very quickly. The Coens seem to like pacing their films slowly - its not a bad thing, but wish there was a point to it in some of them (decent characterisation etc).

ps3ud0

I can't recall a single part of the film that was erratic, long-winded, boring or 'nonesense'.

If he can give a trollish opinion on something he hasn't seen, I can damn well roll eyes at him!

So because you can't recall it, his opinion was trollish?

He made a reasonable assumption based on prior form by the Coen Brothers. That in itself is not trolling, no matter how much you dislike the opinion given.

I have seen it and I agree with most of what he says. Pretty much all of it was absolutely boring.

Oh well, can't go wrong with Bad Boys and Die Hard 4.0.

I thought it was a great film. I liked the humourous elements to it as well. I agree that the girl deserves an oscar, she was particularly good. :)

It's easy to play the 'well you're thick, go and watch a thick person's movie' card. I've just seen The King's Speech, which I found enthralling. No Country for Old Men was paced brilliantly, the undertone of Chigurh's menace kept the interest levels high and...stuff actually happened in that movie.

True Grit by contrast, was utterly insipid.

Skillful diversion by yourself though...back to the original point, making a judgement on what a film could be like based on prior form, is hardly trolling.

Not too bad, end was a bit long winded and I'm still never sure if Bridges is a good actor or a really bad one...

What I want to know is how the heck people can get shot so much and just be fine the next minute. Yeah because being shot through the chest just involves a small bandage and it's fixed! Don't know why but that annoyed me in this film more than any other.
