Hilarious cost me a fortune story for you.........

Wife's 1.9 cdti 55 reg 125k zafira needs a clutch, so I shop around and get quotes for £700 - 1000, then I go to my mechanic and we sort of agree on 700, I ask him about the dual mass fly wheel and he says most of his customers don't bother and alls been fine, he says he'll have a look at it when the box is off, we again agree to leave it.

Fast forward 4 months and a nasty banging from the gearbox has developed, mechanic says yep dmf time for a new one, let's hope it doesn't need grinding out.

On top of this the new clutch is self adjusting, he or Vauxhall don't have the tool to reset and to hire one in would take 3 days so with car hire its cheaper to get a new one.

Sum it up I knew I should have for a new one in with the clutch but took the risk and lost, to give my mechanic his due he had it back in two days all done with a lower ball joint, tracking and an oil change and we split the labour for the clutch.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing we should have got rid of it a year ago, now its had a cam belt water pump clutch dmf aero handbrake assembly and four new tyres looks like we are keeping it for a while longer, what £zzzzz bill will be next that makes us keep it, turbo ? steering ? total engine failure ? Oh and it has 2mm on the front pads the disks have seen better days and the left front caliper is rusted up but I think I'm going to tackle these.

It scares me how people have had to replace so many different parts on their cars, and I've yet to replace one (non service item), and its 11 years old! :(

Im going to run my car into the ground, motoring is such a lottery at times.
