Try and put me off this Netbook choice - ASUS Eee PC T101MT

I've decided on a Netbook and originally intended to buy the Toshiba OCUK are selling but then did my homework.
Of course the IPAD is the 'big thing' but as much as I love my IPOD Touch, I don't want a bigger one with a poor amount of memory.
So I then started to wonder if there was a Windows based netbook that did touchscreen and where the keyboard could fold back to make it look like an IPAD and came across the ASUS Eee PC T101MT.
I've watched loads of videos and read loads of reviews and it looks like the best of all worlds.

Perhaps you've seen something better.
Any advice appreciated.

Acer 1825PTZ ? Packard Bell EasyNote Butterfly Touch ?

Slightly more pennies, but quite a bit more capable perhaps ?

i guess this is outta budget, but the hp touchsmart tm2 series are tablet laptops with 12.1" screens, and they have 'proper' components. For example the latest one has a 1.3ghz pentium U5400 and hd5450, but still with plenty of battery life (the US equivilent can have upto a low volt i5 on the bay). downside is they are around the £700-800 price range.

Ive just bough a pc world refurb tx2-1340ea model. The model is about a year old and got it for £535 with a discount. I still thought it was a bit much seeing as they go in the region of £400 on the bay but its from a (comparatively) reputable source and i get a 1 yr warranty with it. the tx2 has a 2.3ghz turion in and hd3200, so should be a tad more powerful then the pentium, but the battery doesnt last for long. Its also one of the last in the line to have a dvd drive but i guess if you were looking at netbooks then it doesnt matter too much
Just food for thought.

1215N is much better

it has 2x gpus, one is ION for video playback, the other is a low powered intel thing.

It switches from one to the other on the fly

1215N looks a great machine, but does not have touch input....might be a deal-breaker ?

hate to hijack the thread but i'm also looking at the T101MT.

Having used a EEEPC 900 20GB model for over 2 years as a "network tool" i am quite fond of it. it's been thrown around, dropped and generally bounces around in my top box every day. And still manages to boot up in about 20 seconds into XP.

but...

the battery only lasts about 30 minutes on a good day and the power of it is a bit, meh. It refuses to run at anything higher than 600Mhz stable from the Celeron.

So, having a fairly good idea how these things perform and the general usage i have for them, I'm looking for another. The main aim is to get something with a touchscreen as sometimes the mouse pad can be a bit fiddly. SSD would have been a bonus as it’s been fast and stable on the 900, but I realise the cost of one and a touchscreen pushes things over £500. The other netbook I was looking at was a Samsung NB30 Touch. It’s cheaper than the Asus but it’s not a tablet PC, which would have been a nice bonus.

So, It’s main use is as a Network administrators tool, traveling from site to site on the back of a motorcycle.

So, what do you guys think?

edit i also draw a fair ammount and was also considering it as a cheap cintiq when things are slow at work.

Have to say I liked the early impressions of the Folio, but was distinctly underwhelmed when I got to fiddle with one in purple-shirt-land........still, perhaps a trailblazer ?

Had a quick play with the Packard Bell EasyNote Touch in Purple land today. It does seem quite good, and the battery life also looks very nice.

I've been reading up a bit more, it seems to come with a styles as well.

There also seems to be 2 models and prices start from £480ish.
Theres a Celeron SU2300 and a Core 2 Duo SU4100

Which one would you guys go for?
i would rather spend <= £500

Guess it depends on whether you will need the extra grunt, in reality...and what the price difference actually is. Might also be worth investigating battery life variances ?

Thing is, cutting a corner at the beginning can often lead one to think 'if only I had gone for....' ....but hey-ho :)

My original budget was £200 and now it's gone to £500 - I can't go anymore.

Same, anything more than £500 is a no no.

RAM on the Butterflys seem to vary as well, most have 3GB but there's one model with 4GB. Not a huge issue i guess.

If you can wait till around January next year and are ok with going for a 12inch display how about an asus ep121 (this is what I'm after, money is in the bank waiting, as I think the iPad is useless for my needs). Base with hinged socket, keyboard and touchpad has second hard drive and extended battery according to reviews....

It's supposed to be coming in at around $1000 too so there's hope that it will be reasonably priced here too.

Based on c2d ulv so should be more than capable of 720 video
