Try and put me off this Netbook choice - ASUS Eee PC T101MT

ok maybe I'm weird then because I can see the benefits of losing the weight of the keyboard when not needed but then I'm prepared to shove the slate into an adapter.

Look at the Acer 1420p. Great battery life I get about 7 hours web browsing with 3 -4 hours watching youtube and gametrailers 720p videos.
It also has a stylus as well.
Oh and I got mine for £400 in store (it was £450 online)

This could go straight to number 1.

1215N looks a great machine, but does not have touch input....might be a deal-breaker ?

Yeah im looking at the 1215N for myself seems a solid netbook but must say this touchscreen is a very good contender. Hmmm decisions.

Im either getting one or the other :)

dmpoole if you really want the touch feature then go for the T101MT (with bit more research).

Then again last night watched an AMD video about there next APU architecture, must say it did look impressive the performance was emense while hardly stressing the hardware. That will also benefit the battery life a great deal. AMD has some promising stuff coming out early next year might want to look into it.

I watched a couple of videos and read reviews where it isn't capable of playing 720 films without a loot of shuddering so I'm not interested.
Apparently the earlier T91 (!) will do it but it only has a small HD.

The HP Easynote Butterfly is number 1 at the moment but the Acer also looks excellent if I can find where I can get one.

I cant find the acer any where either. I started looking into getting one after I saw it in one of those acer leaflets you get with papers and things like that.
I found mine in store when I went looking for printer paper.
Sorry I cant be any more help

I tried the HP Easynote Butterfly Touch today and it is the one.
It looks great, the keyboard is excellent, it looks and works great as a tablet.
Why the hell would anybody want an IPAD when you can get something like the HP?

Well, i decided to go out and buy one. (PB EasyNote ButterflyTouch)

It was delivered today and i've been playing with it for a few hours.

The screen is very responsive and quite acurate. The screen itself isn't great, viewing angles are horibble and the gloss finish makes things worse with the viewing angles.

It has plenty of power to run most of the things i need on the go, was also playing a game of Crayon Physics on it :-p

Battery life seems ok at the moment, although i've not had it fully charged yet. igot about 3-4 hours from the battery out of the box.

I'll be sticking a fresh copy of win 7 on there tomorrow.

Mine came with 3GB ram, Core 2 SU4100 and a 250GB HDD.

I was under the impression that cut down versions were installed so they would run a lot faster.
Wouldn't you be better just undeleting stuff?

Anyway, keep me updated and try a 720p video for me to see if it runs OK.

as far as i can tell, it's not a cut down OS.

It's using Windows 7 home premium, which includes media center and a ton of packard bell(hp) stuff.

There's even a dedicated button top left of the keyboard to open up Packard Bells backup utility.

Once i get home i'll try a few movies on it, but initial tests using streamed video and AVIs are good. media center is a little slow to start up but once it's running it responds pretty well tothe touch screen. Viewing web pages in tablet mode is pretty awesome, it even adjusts orientation or the screen itself.

What did you decide to go for in the end? Having the same dilemma myself and this thread has been really helpful so far!

I didn't but I ended up with a Samsung Galaxy S smartphone instead :D

The Netbook is still on the cards and my favourite is still the Packard Bell Easynote Butterfly Touch but I have been looking at the Advent Vega tablet.
It all depends on what you want the device to do, for instance do you want to be able to use it as a PC or just a device for looking at the internet, video's and playing games?
Personally I'd buy the Packard Bell over an IPAD.

I'd like to know how Andri has got on because I still may go up that path later on.

Well basically for the last 4 years I have been using an Eeepc 701 religiously. Internet, word processing on the move and it came in really useful backpacking for 4 months, where anything bigger would have been a pain to carry and use.

Unfortunately travelling took its toll and it has finally died, plus the 700mhz celeron processor has trouble playing videos even on youtube and 4gb hdd has started to become a pain.

So really I'm looking for a replacement which is going to last a while. It's a toss up between replacing my ageing Sony Ericson k750 with a smartphone, which would cover the internet/music angle, and add gps functionality. Or get a netbook/tablet with the obvious added functionality and performance they'd provide.

Well I'd opt for a higher end android phone like the Samsung Galaxy S, HTC Desire or similar.
The music playback on my Samsung Galaxy was awful until I put Poweramp on it.
Video playback is superb and I also put it through the RGB on my TV.
If you've got good eyes the screen is quite readable for internet.
Most Android phones also come with built in GPS.

Yea a smartphone fits the bill entirely except for the lack of word processing ability. I can't decide whether I'll need it often enough in the next few years to justify a laptop over a phone.

Strange, modern, dilemma to be in really since 10 years ago a phone just phoned and a laptop just laptopped......
