Hi all, I'm running my desktop on a wired connection miles away from my router (upstairs), and have my xbox360 next to it in my room. What I'd like to do is have it so I don't need to constantly switch the ethernet cable around to play online. At the moment I've bodged it by putting a usb adapter in my desktop, plugging the xbox into my ethernet port, and bridging the connections (I do realise I could run my desktop wirelessly and plug my xbox into the wired router connection, but wanted to see could I run it through my PC). Should I invest in a cheap pci network card so I can run my pc on the wired connection and run my xbox through the pci card or is there a better way? Cheers!

Wireless? though the adapter is £50 for the 360

or just wire the 360 to the router?

Just buy a cheap 5 port ethernet switch and a couple of patch cables.

Result is no ****ing around with ICS, bridging connections etc. and it means you don't need the PC to be on for it to work.

Also gives you a few extra ports for if you want to add more devices in the future (another console for example).

£35

or IMO get an HP1400-8G for £10 more as its far better built, more ports and a lifetime warranty.

So an ethernet switch sounds like the best bet? Was looking for a cheap and easy option (tried to canibalise an old pc for parts, but turned out the NIC was so old there weren't even Vista drivers for it :P). Will check out that switch, cheers for the advice guys :)

the other advantage of using a switch is that your pc doesn't have to be on when you are gaming on the xbox, and as wij said you will have more ports available for other devices should you ever need them, I picked up a cheap one a while ago that has served me well
