Trying to figure out if this is going to work or not

Ive spent the past 3 days pouring over the net and have learned a lot but my brain is turning to mush trying to figure something out. I need a second oppinion.

I currently have a 3700x cpu and an arctic freezer esports duo air cooler. I have the money there to upgrade to either a 5800x3d or a 5900x. I was going to buy a new cooler. A noctua nh u12a or a d15. But for various reasons this is not ideal. So i started looking into if my current cooler can handle the new cpu. This is what i found out.

The esports duo is only a few degrees worse than the d15 and 1c worse than the u12a, even though it only has 4 heat pipes. This is due to the esports duo having direct pipe contact.

The esports duo is almost on par with a 240mm aio

The esports duo is a 220 watt tdp cooler (not easy to find out) so in theory it should be able to handle a cpu at 142 watt tdp

Yet most people on line scream that the esports duo isn't good enough despite the above.

Is there any point in shelling out over 100 for a cooler thats only a few degrees better? Shouldn't i just stick with the cooler i have? I'm basically stuck that way anyway. Because the standoffs for the esport duo are jammed solid in my motherboard. I would need to take a pair of pliers to them to get them off and risk damaging the motherboard in the process. I don't want to walk that path.

Where is said it was 220 watt tdp is based on reviews. If you go onto the arctic website for the cooler, it doesn't show tdp. So i had to read loads of reviews for it to get an answer. Most rank it as 210/220 tdp.

Gamers nexus rank the esports duo as 56c above ambiant. Also gamers nexus and the arctic website show the esports duo running a few degrees worse than the d15. On redit there is a guy running the 5900x on the esports duo. He undervolted using pbo2 to a magnitude of 10. He showed a hwinfo screenshot of his 5900x running cinibench and ccx 1 was at 78c and ccx was at 70c. So with an undervolt this cooler can easily handle the 5900x at full load.

It's not just games i play. There's handbreak and abelton and loads of other programs that i use that would benefit from the extra cores. I also have a multi monitor setup and run multiple things at once. Encoding a youtube vid for example while playing games. I know i can put those cores to good use. The 5900 seems like the best of both world to me. It's almost as good at gaming as the 5800x3d

Also im reading online that the 5900x is actually cooler than the 5800x3d due to the 3d vcache on the x3d and the single ccx vs dual ccx.
