I'm thinking that if none of the posted fixes work it will be down to the wireless adapter, like an antenna wire connector.

Turn of the wireless security, if it connects its the router settings, try it you may like it.

Had this problem when fixing my girlfriends sisters laptop the other day. Turned out it was down to Vistas poor attempt at IPV6.

a lot of faffing, and reseting ip stacks and the like - got there in the end though.

If you can ping 4.2.2.2 and 8.8.8.8 etc, try pinging google.com, if you can't, set your DNS manually to either of the IPs you just tried to ping.

I had trouble with a wifi card not supporting AES or TKIP can't remember which one I had running at the time but it didn't like one of them. Some routers can run both modes simultaneously.

Might be a long shot but if theres a dell wireless manager installed you should uninstall it.

I dealt with a sony laptop yesterday that had some crap sony own brand network manager on it that would intermittently can the wireless card. Uninstalled it and hey presto it all works.

I agree with this. Had lots of problems using the dell connection manager thats installed. Uninstall it an use windows to manage the connection. I had the connection drop using the dell app, its been fine since I stop all the laptops on the network using it.
