tryiong to get data off a drive

hey guys,

I don't normally post in here but am looking for some help!

I have a hard drive that won't give me access to the directory, it keeps saying I need to format the hard drive but that will lose all my work

it was formatted originally on a xp machine but no longer gets recognised on xp machines, and on this it gets found but asks to format...

does anyone have any advice?

download partedmagic iso

burn with imgburn

boot from cd

open the 'testdisk' application, that can restore partition tables, should take a matter of seconds

all your data should just be 'there' after that.
