Just seen this on BBC News:

BBC News said:
INDONESIA EARTHQUAKE:Small tsunami measuring 17 cm (6.7 in) heading for coast of Aceh, warning centre official quoted as saying

How can they call that a Tsunami?! :p

Surely it will increase in size as it approaches the coast? Although I'm, not sure if the numbers quoted are the predicted heights when it hits the coast

they become bigger as they get into shallow water.

Waves increase in size when they reach shallow water yes?

They've spotted a wave of almost 7in and are calling it a Tsunami. That isn't even a big wave. =/

I would imagine if a big "Tsunami" type was to hit, it would have already hit by now. They're probably causing unnecessary panic in a situation where people will operate better calm.

I think after Japan's incident, any possible threat of a Tsunami will be taken very seriously with lots of pre-warnings and pre-judgements that may seem a bit OTT, however generally there for a good reason should the worst happen.
