Hi all,

I'm going to be posting quite a lot over the next 2-3 months as I'm wanting to build my new system around late Feb time and want to get as much info as possible.

I'm going to be watercooling my system and my budget for my WC will be around £400. I want solid white tubing in my system because I really like the look of it.

http://www.million-dollar-pc.com/systems-2008/lian-li/tremeloes/lian-li-pc-a01-htpc.htm

What's the best/safest size tube to get? I've heard most people go for 7/16 over 1/2 barbs. I can't seem to find solid white tubing of this size.

What size is the tubing in the link I've provided?

I can get hold of D-Tek G1/4 to 1/2" Hose Tail HI-Flow Barbs as I've been told these are possibly the best.

Hope somone can help. Wanting to plan my build to the very last details.

Thanks,

RoEy

I'm planning to use clips regardless of what tube size I go for.

Edit - Just found out the tubing in the link is feser 16/10 mm

Is it still ok to use or is 7/16 better?

I prefer 7/16 or 1/2, 10mm is much thinner and temps will be higher

Cheers pilky.

Could you possibly list all the different sizes, or the most common, and identify the pros and cons? Sorry to be a pain. I'd just like know all the available sizes so I can assess it better.

Thanks,

RoEy

There is pretty much only 10mm 1/2 and 7/16th

I would go with 7/16th then if I could find the right tubing 1/2th

I wouldn't use 10mm personally

Did you put the end of each tubing into boiling water beforehand to loosen it a bit? I should imagine then when it cools on the barb is a complete water tight fit.

Yerrr you have to heat it up, I dont use clips on the barbs on my cpu block, it completely water tight

Hi Pilky,

Do you fit the tubing when you have fitted the waterblock to the cpu/gpu or would you fit it to the block and then attach it to the board/card?

RoEy

i always do it when the block is in place, easier then to work out how long you need for your next cut of tubing

Yeah I thought that would be better but people have said in the past that you could put pressure on the mb and cpu when fitting it with it already on.

I agree with what has already been said, 7/16th's tubing is the best choice imho. I simply used it with zip ties and there was no chance of it coming off at all.

I've tried both approaches to fitting blocks and tuning, and found its better to fit tubing when your equipment is already in place with the blocks fitted. You can get a much better sense of how much tubing you need; trying to guess could mean you've left yourself 5mm short and thus you strain the tubes when you fit the blocks to the board afterwards.

Thanks for the info mate, really appreciated.

Your more than welcome, if you need any more help this is the place to ask :D

Too right! I'm jotting all this info down. I thought about putting a booklet together so I've got everything down to the last detail before I build it.

What do peeps normally use to cut the tubing? Do you bother buying a tube cutting kit or just use a pair of scissors?

I have just boguht into watercooling, yet to fit it but went for the 7/16" tubing and 1/2" barbs after being reccomended by a fair amount of people.

*Grins* Thats precisely what I did, including drawing up a couple of flow diagrams and shopping lists.

Best peice of advice I have for you right now is, read the watercooling sticky, then search this very forum for build threads to get a feel for how people go about things.

The good news is, if you take your time and do the proper preparation, its actually very easy to do all this :)
