Just checked the cable from the antenna because I suspected that it was short circuit from the core wire to the shielding and it showed zero ohms but, when I disconnected it from the antenna it appears to be ok. Its the antenna itself that appears to be short circuit. What should the resistance be on the antenna ?

if there is no connectivity between them, the resistance should be shown as "error" or "----" signifying an unmeasurable resistance between the electrodes.

if it is showing "0" then that means that current is being conducted and you have a short.

The question I'm really asking is what should the resistance be between the core wire and the shielding connection on the aerial itself, maybe I didn't make that clear. :o

I've been using a Multimeter for the last 30 years so I'm quite ok to read one, I just know very little about TV aerials.

think that it will show as a short because of the way the coax is connected onto the aerial itself - effectively one piece of metal as a folded dipole?
