TV Bench Unit - Recommendations?

I own the lack (in the black/brown finish) and actually its extremely well finished for something that costs less than £40. As pointed out it does lack depth in the lower shelf for anything but a Marantz amp as the height is less than 150mm .... that brings me to this

How can you plonk it on top if your TV is sitting on the top?

This is mine after I modded it to allow my new amp to be ;) plonked on top

You got any pics of how you mounted that, back end view...

Is that site safe Somnam? Liking the furniture.

They are both heavily used by members of AVForums. This is my A/V rack from SolidWoodInteriors and I'll probably be getting a TV bench from them too (as a Chunky Monkey one might not match, even though it'd be cheaper since they used reclaimed woods):

Got to get rid of those old chest of draws there!

The Chunky Monkey thread you want to look at is here:

Chunky are great because it's all bespoke, so as you can see from the thread, people measure out what they want so their amp will fit or they can have the center speaker in the vertical position (which is supposed to be better than horizontal).

I have the lack (the same as in the op's picture) i have had it for around 5 years and it has been faultless. It's very sturdy but it probably would scratch easy but once your tv and stuff are on it how would you scratch it as the only time you would touch it is to clean it.

^ This. They are well made and very sturdy.

Yes mate I made all of it (less the Ikea bench and bolts/screws).

It's connected to the bench via what they call coach screws and off the top of my head (can check if you really need to know) I think they were 10mm in size and two into each shelf through the vertical metal frame.

The main vertical section is flat mild steel 10mm thick by 80mm wide and the two cross struts are 5mm thick by 40mm wide both these are attached by 2off 8mm stainless steel bolts (cap head). On the end of each strut is a 22mm diameter stainless steel bar attached by a single 8mm countersunk stainless steel bolt. the 22mm diameter is important as this tv (LG 50PK590) has a slight recess (you can see it in picture) and this size allows the bar inside that recess. On the end of each bar there is a 6mm threaded section to allow it to screw into the back of the tv, I also made these bars approx 115mm long to allow the tv to be positioned more over the top of the unit thus distributing the weight and avoiding any tip over issues (though in my case that wasnt ever gonna be an problem being corner postioned), this said in my honest opinion it looks much better anyway and lets the rear of the tv breath by keeping all the vent holes clear (as seen in pic). The whole lot (frame) was finished off in a hammerite black spray (not shown in pic above). Hope this helps and if you need any more info or help please feel free to ask mate. :)

Thanks for the info, will defo be looking at doing something very similar to do with mine, I have the 50PK350 LG screen and just want to clear the top of the bench without wall mounting.

Thank you very much for the info very helpful thanks.

Cheers chap, I opted for a nice pine eBay special in the end. 6 adjustable cubby holes, and stands a little higher which is nice for TV viewing. Only bummer is I need more kit to fill the holes now. :D
