I have had a samsung 42 inch rear projection tv for about 5 years now.
Hasnt had that much use recently 2 hours per day max as it has been a bedroom tv for about 18 months.

Last night I put the tv on and there was a strange burning smell  . The picture was on but it looked like one of the bulbs (dont know which one other than the fact it is the left one when looking at the tv from the front.

My question is this. What do you think about getting it repaired will it be costly and is it even worth getting quotes :( .

I know my main tv tosh 52 dlp works on one main bulb but this samsung obviously has the primary 3 colours.

Any advice appreciated.

Sorry, If the bulb is gone, can you not get a new one?

Or is there more to it?

I could look into getting the bulb replaced but I have been led to believe that they are very expensive (around 200 - 300) and I was just wondering if anyone had experience of this before I look into it further.

I have heard that DLP bulbs have to be replaced in a similar fashion to projector lamps. Surely you must have had to replace the bulb before in 5 years?

no never had to replace it.

The broken one is not a dlp tv. It has the three colour bulbs / projectors (dont understand the technical bit).
