TV License! (I know, I know but need a little rant)

When building the house, we got several letters delivered.

Back when the house was purely breeze blocks I found a letter under a spare block, which the postman had tried to deliver. Long story short.. It was a "final reminder omg you gonna get sued".

Rung them up and told them the house was not habitable and they asked "so you don't have a TV?" to which I replied "I DONT EVEN HAVE A ROOF". Apparently they can only stop the letters for 6 months at a time. Oh joy.

i though that a tv only had to be able to pick up a tv signal for it to require a one
well you learn something new every day
but companys that sell the equipment have to pass your details on thats why they know you have a set

I shocked the guy by letting him in and showing him that I had no tv...

Some people have all the bad luck..

Some people don't like randomers coming in their house.

"123 Fake Street" comes to mind. :p

We get numerous letters from TV Licensing, all very rude and threatening, telling us that we're going to be taken to court if we don't pay our licence fee.

The best part - we have a TV licence. We've had one for this house for over 20 years. Every few letters we used to phone them up and tell them this at which point they would apologise and say it won't happen again. Then the letters would start coming again. Now we just let the letters pile up and have pretty much stopped caring. They're welcome to come round and see the paper copy of the licence if they like... :)

I get letters regularly, I don't have a TV that is capable of receiving broadcasts (it can't turn on). The letters don't bother me though. They just go straight in the bin. I've never felt threatened by them though.

<snip>
rant over :/

If he only got into the stairwell, no problem. If there was no TV on watching live broadcast from his line of sight, no problem.

What worries me is that your gf let him in to the building. What case would there possibly be for issues from a previous tenancy that would require access to the building? Surely it would have to go via the landlord? I'd tell anyone like that to do one tbh.

I got some letter through the other day about Tv licensing, apparently they have some authority to come in and check if we're using. Thing is, I do use my TV but only as a PC monitor or for the Xbox. Think they're going to try pin that on me?

No authority what so ever, it's very clever wording of the letter - more scare tactics.
