Twin Frozr II GTX 580 or Sapphire 7870 for Battlefield 3?

ahhh. I just turned down a Frozr II Overclocked from a guy for £210. Would this have been a better card to go for over the 7850?

Also I've just seen a Sapphire 7850 920MHz 2GB OC at £179.99. That seems a great price, is it worth going for the OC rather than the standard?

I believe BF3 is more in Nvidia's favour, so if thats all that you play, I'd go for the 580. Otherwise, either a Sapphire 7850 or the MSI 7850 also at £179.99.

Why, is it not up to the job. I thought it being 1000w should be plenty especially with these AMD cards as I understand they don't use much juice

I had an xps 420 back in the day with an 8800gt. Dell psu sparked out and fried everything just out of the 1 year warranty while playing cod4, lol.

Both of these card will work with my current machine but I understand I might get some bottlenecking.

PC specs are as follows:
Dell XPS 720
Intel Core2 Quad CPU @ 2.66GHz
5.5gb Ram
Windows 64bit ultimate
Dell PM480 1000w PSU

Well, with BF3 MP, you probably be bottlenecked with that CPU at 2.66... Besides, how do you get those 5.5GB of RAM???

Anyways, the best choice, in my opinion, would be a 7850.. With a midd OC it can reach the power of a 7870/580, for a better price..

Mine, at 1200/1400, runs BF3 at 3840x1080 in Ultra +/-40FPS
Besides, it's 2GB against 1.5...

Card ordered. Decided to go with the Sapphire 7850 OC. I like the size and fact it's had rave reviews on fan noise and heat. Plan is to overclock it to get it close to GTX 580 speeds for Battlefield although at my current resolution I may not need to. Price paid was £179.99

Will let you know how I get on with the card

Yep, excellent perf. and even at load I can't hear mine at all. Good temps, low power draw.
