Twin turbo Supra vs twin turbo 996..

1.8t mk1 pwnage, :) ofc only guessing
would love to do that as my next project if i cant afford a decent 240z to stuff a small block into

I WANT ONE NOW!

That's fantastic :D

What's the deal with that, is it a tuned 1.8 gti or has it had some surgery?

i would imagine its a 20v 1.8t engine from the modern vag range (leon cupra, golf gti, various audi's, audi tt,passat, etc) these can be tuned to silly power.

That is damned impressive. Crazy french people  :p

I think I would still rather have the Porsche, but there's no denying how awesome that little Golf is.

From the inside shots of the supra it doesn't look like the porsche is actually bothering (judging by the speed of the other motorists on the road).

That golf is still very quick though. Nice too!

They can be tuned pretty heavily yeah, but still if it's just bolt ons - with a REVO tune, uprated turbo, FMIC, exhaust system, i'd still be surprised to see it pushing more that 300bhp - what's the porker putting out?

(i suppose weight does come in to it too)

A mate if mine is leaning on me to get rid of the MR2 and get a Supra TT. I love the Mister 2 to bits but twin turbo gets more and more tempting.

The Supra is an awful lot of car for not an awful lot of money.

Hail to Toyota ! :D

No chance!! Thats got to be a Cossie Modded VW. Even a tuned 20vt VAG lump would struggle when modified!
why? you can get at least 400bhp out of one if not more if you want to compromise reliability

Yeah, and trying to keep that on the road through the front wheels of a MK1 Golf! Dont make me laugh!

That has to be similar to the one Penski posted up the other day

You could always just do an engine conversion ;)

Sorry, very wrong. The VAG 1.8T is now well able to give upto 400bhp as reliably as a YB.

A std mk1 1.8 gti weighs in at approx 850kg. Many people are running bigger turbo conversions on S3 BAM engines, getting 300-400 reliable bhp with good power curves to match.

996 turbo weighs approx 1600kg and has 420bhp =262bhp/ton
mk1 (850kg) with 300bhp =353bhp/ton

nearly 100bhp/ton better than the 911!

In fact, I know of one particular mk2 golf that's got @340bhp, @300ft/lb and is a syncro (4wd).

ALso bear in mind the gearing of the golf wont be expecting a top speed approaching 200mph so will give even greater acceleration
