God damn you Gibbo!

Ordered one of the Lightnings, can't say no at that price.

When you get it, fancy posting a review and please focus on the overclocking as these are LE edition with reduced 1030MHz core, so be interested to see how they clock.

The last time MSI did an LE of a Lightning with lower core clock they were actually clocking better than the full blown edition, so be good to hear your findings. :)

Good stuff.

Might order a couple to warm up my room and have a tinker.

Best 290X on the market, the only card which rivals the Lightning is the Vapor-X and you could argue the PCS+ is a good card, but at this price this card is hands down winner!

Bear in mind, this is a spot buy, MSI just sold me their inventory to get clear, we've pre-sold 20 already so we might be taking them off-sale soon as we only got 164pc coming in.

God damnit Gibbo, why do you always drop these deals when I feel I finally know what I want? Might give this card nd monitor a bash over the MSI 970 and LG 34" I had planned to get, why not!

At 3440x1440 a 290X should beat a 970 due to better memory interface. :)

Could it be because they sent you 2 of MSI Radeon R9 290X Lightning Lite Edition rather than MSI Radeon R9 290X Lightning? Just received one and it has a "Lite Edition" sticker on the box. The GTX780 Lighting Lite editions were underclocked budget versions, but I cant find any further info at all on a MSI Radeon R9 290X Lightning Lite Edition even existing... I'm not the happiest of bunnies. Anyway. gg.

LE refers only to clock speeds, hence the lower 1030MHz core.

Components and parts used are all identical.

I have a none LE version here, the power connectors are identical to the one in the picture, they are a tight fit. Saying that I've ran them off Superflower, Antec and Corsair PSU's all with no issues its just tight!

There's tight, but mine are beyond ridiculous. Once you've struggled to get the Pcie power leads in. They are virtually impossible to get back out other than having to pry the cooler up from the board which is not how it should be.

It took 2 of us just to get the leads back out safely to prevent causing damage to the cooler or board. 1 of us had to carefully pry the cooler up away from the board, whilst I struggled to clip the leads back out, damaging my Pcie clip in the process.

How do we resolve this?

This is how they all.
So you either return it under the DSR/CCR or whatever it is called now for a refund or put up with it as this is simply the design of the Lightning.

This is how they are? So you reckon it's the norm needing 2 people to remove a Pcie lead from the connector block. 1 to pry up the cooler whilst the other unclips the plug?

8 Pack has no issue with them, but OK he is huge, but never had an issue either, yes it is very tight but they go in and come back out, just not the best design.

Yours are no different to any other, hence the only option is a refund, replacing will not sure as they are all the same.

Unless you have these particular cards to hand, it's impossible for you to comment that they are 'all the same' and not defective. These particular cards I've got could actually have ill fitted coolers. Do you actually think I'm new to this Pc lark? I've had most of the high end cards and never come across it this bad.

I can easily tell from your photo though.

I have a full blown Lightning on my desk and 8 Pack has one on his. I've compared your photo to both these cards and the gap is identical, basically what gap, unfortunately.

Yes its clearly a design flaw but there is no fix, there is no revision to the design, this is how they are.

If you seen me in person, you'd realise this is not a strength issue. Look at the pic again. You are pushing a flimsy plastic connector up against the metal cooler which will not just lift by pushing the block in on mine. It would break if I just used brute force. With mine you have to physical pull the cooler up by hand to get the plug in and out.

That's how I unplug mine I use one hand to make the gap between cooler and power connectors bigger and other hand to unplug or plug in as it's very tight.

Mine seems to get around 1235mhz with max volts.

Typical MSI this, had exactly the same with the last LE cards, they clocked just as well as full blown editions.

MSI overclock testing must be super extreme as that is a very good result on a 290X especially this far into its production cycle. :)
