Two Lossie tornados down

Tragic :( no doubt I would have worked with the missing crew at some point. I spent time on both 617 and 15 squadron up there. Seeing jets in and out every day.

Hopefully an investigation can shed some light on things in the future. My thoughts are with the families of those involved

The search was called off last night due to the weather conditions (foggy, low visibility). But this morning it is now a "recovery" search rather than a "rescue" search. :(

Hopefully an investigation can shed some light on things in the future.
There are uncomfirmed reports that they crashed into each other.

Yes, that is the most obvious explanation, but i didnt want to speculate too much before there is an official statement.

There are other possibilities, as you say, i'm not sure what the weather was like at the time but the search was called off yesterday evening due to poor visibility, which could have been a factor.

UPDATE: One of the crew members picked up and taken to hospital yesterday has died. The other is in a 'serious but stable' condition.
They were from 15 (Reserve) Sqd.

Still no news on the other 2 missing.

RIP

*I'm just posting what i hear from local news sources. I dont actually have any first hand knowledge of whats going on.

Just seen the update on BBC's website as well. Doesn't bode well for the other two missing though. Don't think it's been confirmed whether the two pilots that were rescued were of the same aircraft though?

Very sad news. Could well have been the Role Demo pair as I think they are from 15Sqn. Not a good sign for the others when the search is called off. Must have been a very hard decision to make.

Do they not have systems to warn pilots when they get too close to another plane?

Regardless, it is very sad to hear of an incident like this.

there will be something in the radar systems. but at that speed by the time u hear the warning it may be too late.

why did they call of the search so early?

bad weather?

ffs fine u call of the sea king and move mountain rescue up the hill. fog isnt exactly a rare occurrence up there.

Struggling to understand what you are getting at with this post but my understanding of the situation is that helicopters and fog generally don't mix well at all.
