Hello

Intel have upped the standard clocks and turbo clocks on the already insanely quick i7 SandyBridge with a new CPU named the 2700K.

OcUK will have stock shortly so get in quick and buy one now to avoid any dissapointments with the small price rises that are happening over the intel range.

Intel Core i7-2700K 3.50GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail @ £284.99 inc VAT

CP-390-IN_400.jpg

Intel's new Sandybridge based CPU's is a complete new refresh that requires new socket LGA1155 mainboards. This new platform uses less power and has vastly superior integrated graphics. The HD2000 graphics is capable of all multimedia task featuring DirectX 10.1 runtime making them ideal for gamers too. The K series edition processors are unlocked on the multiplier allowing overclocking and also feature HD3000 onboard graphics which feature twice the horsepower of the HD2000 making them ideal for gamers and have support for 3D Gaming. The new Sandybridge K series processors also feature immense overclocking as well.

- Lithography Process: 32 nm
- Cores: 4
- Threads: 8
- Frequency: 3.50 GHz (Turbo Mode 3.90GHz)
- Integrated HD 3000 (12 EUs) Graphics
- Integrated Graphics Frequency: 850MHz (1350MHz Turbo)
- Cache: 8 MB shared L3
- Memory Controller: Dual channel DDR3 800/1066/1333/1600 MHz
- TDP: 95W
- Socket: LGA1155
- Compatible with Socket 1156 heatsinks
- 3yr Warranty

***OVERCLOCKING GUIDELINES***

- Do not exceed 1.35-1.38v core voltage, doing so could limit lifespan of the CPU
- Do not overclock with BCLK, again doing so could limit lifespan of the CPU
- Recommended memory voltage is 1.50v, so make sure to run your memory at 1.50v, higher could limit lifespan of the CPU
- These recommendations come from OcUK and Intel, your warranty is un-affected but we highly recommend you adhere to the above to make sure your CPU lifespan is un-affected
- All Sandybridge CPU's worldwide should be run at the above or lower voltages, no higher!

Any info/speculation on whether these are effectively higher binned 2600ks and may represent a chip which can OC further than a 2600k can or the same with lower voltages?

Tough to speculate I imagine as any 2600k will happily do the increase the 2700k has at stock without being a particularly good chip?

Most pointless product ever, they won't be higher binned, think of it this way, if theres not a single 2600k out there that can't do 3.9Ghz, whats the point of binning. Intel probably just don't want to go what looks set to be circa 13 months + without a "new" chip to release for the midrange platform as it looks bad. Dumb analysts and even some dumb home users will be "wow, new chip, Intel are doing something, yay".

Yea its pointless if this chip is identical to the 2600k, just with a higher clock.

However, 90% of people in general have no idea about overclocking so it will sell to those that want the fastest SB available.

This exactly.

I doubt very much these are binned chips they are 2600k's with a new name and a bump in speed. I'm guessing Intel will stop making the 2600k's now and just label them 2700k and keep their price up that way. Also outch to the price, I paid £239.99 when OCUK had the 2600k retail on offer. So £45 more gets you a nice new box with 2700k on it and 0.10ghz :-/ .. See this is why I was hoping AMD would have a good chip with Bulldozer to keep Intel in check...but Intel can really do what it likes right now thanks to AMD's mess.

1600Mhz isn't supported on SB :p

Yes it is :). 1600Mhz isn't an 'official' memory standard so it usually isn't listed. But you (and manufacturers) can clock the memory at whatever speed they want.

Most pointless product, just like every speed bump from both AMD and Intel, seems people are only getting arsey because it's Intel.

It's not officially supported, so it's not "supported" as such.

Well that's not officially supported then.
By that logic a garage can sell a 200bhp turbocharged car as a 250bhp car 'because it can be chipped'

As a retailer OCUK should list it's actual spec from Intel

lol at prices (no offence to ocuk, obv other retailers will be just as pricey too). i just don't see why anyone with the first clue about pc hardware would pay for this instead of a 2600k
