Two pictures of Gates

Just so you know, the links are fudged...

The second is really quite nice, although the OOF gate is a bit annoying. Methinks that could have been sorted out by stopping the lens down a bit, getting it all on focus.

Cheers

What does fudged mean?

I take your point on OOF, I was trying to focus on the tree.

Thanks for your comments......

Edited - I guess fudged means broken. :) Thanks

The first pic doesn't do anything for me, sry. The second photo is really good i like it, although like Kimmet said, it would have been better with the fence in focus too.

Thanks, here a picture of the same tree without the gate.

Tree without Gate
It does need something in the foreground such as the gate, also I think the portrait looks a lot better than the landscape.

If you get a chance, you should retake the shot with the fence in focus and generally a high DOF.

i like the gate and tree photo... not sure about the close gate photo...

prefer the tree without gate photo

Dammit. And I thought this was about Bill.

Anyhoo, nice enough pictures. The first one is unfortunately just a gate with some snow on, the second could well do without the distraction of the gate in the foreground (in or out of focus) and third is easily the best of the bunch in terms of technique.

I do like the portrait style of the second shot though - what with the open gate and the sense of depth provided by the format, it feels like you are being invited into the photo. If you got closer to the gate you'd have a very strong image.
