Two weeks off the smokes and I..

I quit cold turkey too last year after smoking for about 4 years. Still have the urge sometimes, especially when drinking.

If you find it tricky then replace the habit with something else like normal gum. You will soon realise how much the habit is just as big as the addiction :)

I went cold turkey from day 1 in basic training, by week 3 I felt beyond alive, my physical performance was at true peak, I never thought I could run so far and enjoy it! Try run (at a fast pace) 1.5 miles in 6 mins! I loved it, week 4 I suffered a really bad back injury, started smoking and dropped out as I was going to be held back for 12 weeks!

Anyway, that short period of time I didn't smoke, was very tough, but my god did I love it...

Wish I had the strength to go cold turkey again.

Keep going OP, good on you mate.

The e-cigs are just dragging it out. Stop them now.

You have already done the hardest part, don't waste 2 weeks and let yourself down now.

If you are still having cravings after 2 weeks, it's the e-cigs that keep topping up your nicotine levels. Just go cold turkey and after 3-4 days you will be much better.

E-Cigs?

I was a smoker for 6-7 years 10 a day, I then stopped which was when I realised I can stop and start as I please, I havnt had one in 3 weeks now, If I go down the pub say next week or go clubbing I can take 20 out with me on a night out, then stop the following day

Same here. Just don't make it a usual day habit but enjoy smoking when you can/want to. And remember that it affects your health so balance it out with a good diet/exercise plus longer breaks when you feel like it's becoming too addictive. Isn't it the same with drinking?

Want to kill.
I was kind of fine up until yesterday, but I've somehow become very emotional and uptight.

I am using an E-cig, to try and quench my cravings but can see myself getting addicted to these E-cig's.

Anyone given up the smokes, and gone through this before offer advice?

By that point, the craving is entirely psychological (the physical addiction is gone in a few days). Once you start on it, you can spiral deeper into it, digging yourself further in. You're having one of those times. It's kind of like mild depression in that way - if you get stuck in it, it can get much worse.

Distraction is a possible way out of the hole. Do something. Anything, but do it full on, with all your mind on it. It's your mind that's the issue here - occupying it with something else can change things.

The craving you're feeling now is temporary. It wasn't there yesterday. It probably won't be there tomorrow. If you can manage it now, you'll stay in command of yourself rather than addiction being in charge of you.

Also, an addiction to e-cigs is far, far less bad than an addiction to smoking. So if it comes down to a lesser of two evils, it's a clear choice. e-cigs do no harm to other people and far less harm to you.

If you want to prove that you don't need the nicotine, then get some nicotine-free juices for your e-cig.

I've been about 3 and a half weeks now since moving to e-cigs. After almost two weeks I had a proper roll-up, and it literally tasted like licking an ashtray. I couldn't believe how different it was!

E-cigs aren't about giving up smoking as such. They are a replacement for smoking, most people that 'smoke' (called vaping by them) aren't trying to quit only to get nicotine in a different way that doesn't have tar and stuff. From the little I've read a lot of them do lower the amount of nicotine in their 'juice' over time.

I'm sure they could be used to help you quit. I believe they are designed to be as much like smoking as they can be without being smoking, so as you say you'll most likely only transfer your addiction too them.

Go hard or go home

Quit it full stop, E CIG wtf is that

Is that like an alcoholic going on non alcoholic beer

Pretty much, LOL.

E-cigs are just personal vapourisers - you use nicotine liquid with flavourings instead of tobacco. No combustion and no nasty additives. Legal indoors, too.

I'm not claiming they're going to stop you wanting your nicotine fix, but the health benefits are immeasurable if you make the shift from tobacco to them. After only a couple of weeks my smoker's cough is gone and I can barely stand the taste of a tobacco cigarette.

You can also get nicotine free liquid to refill them with, so should you wish you can gradually wean yourself off it. If anything, I think that would help psychologically as if you manage it for a few weeks with no nicotine then there's the realisation - you don't need it anymore, just stop!

This is normal, keep going, RESIST!!! Maybe the e-cig is a bad idea because it's still giving you the sensation of the action, I used the chewy gum.

You need to find a computer game that will engross you for 20 mins each time like Tetris on the DS leave it on standby whenever you start to crave give it a bash, I read what ever was in my arms reach or eyeline, once I ended up checking a pizzaria / kebab shop menu for spelling misktakes LOL.

Don't avoid places or people because they remind you of smoking because whenever you feel strong enough after avoidance it'll kick you in the teeth stronger when you decide to go back to normal life with the fags.

Change the way you think, become the petulant child you always wanted to be by not listening to the brain...tell it to p**s off

10 months for me and still working, I stopped thinking about it about 4 months in I even forgot to chew my gum, it clicked oneday that I'd not thought about it all day.

I promise it gets easier.

im trying to quit, its been 3 weeks now and i havnt had a single one, even managed to go out on the beers saturday night and still didnt smoke any, the first week was the hardest, to be honest i probably couldnt have made it without playing civ 5 and eating carrots....

3 months clean now suckers!

just started a crap new job and going for as many "fag" breaks as i can. its amazing i can stand there chatting to them and although i feel a mental urge there's nothing physical now at least. That was pretty much my ultimate test so far. I passed.

Chewing gum --- normal stuff not nicotine ... get some.. chew it up nonstop when u need to.

I quit 4 weeks ago today and things are ok. I used 1 medium nicotine patch and kept it on for a week and then took it off and I had stopped smoking and did not get physical cravings. I think that when nicotine is in the system, the body craves more but when there is no nicotine the cravings go. I did have headaches and felt under the weather for a week, the only problem is that I have some insomnia now feel sleepy during the day, so I miss the stimulant effect of smoking, but this seems to be improving.
Perhaps we should start a thread on what to spend the smoking money on.

revival time :p
i remembered reading this thread.

i am also off the fags now for 2 weeks, and struggling.

i started off with the patches and inhalers. i found it really easy,
but 2 days ago i just went cold turkey, as i was using the inhalers too much :D

just hope it gets easier
