Two weeks off the smokes and I..

It never gets easier, you get used to the craving. Or so I found. Except I have quit quitting never made it past a month. :(

Really? That's sad :(

I smoked from 12 - 22 (27 now). I read Alan Carr's (not the British one :p) "The only way to stop smoking", put out my last cigarette and have never wanted one since. Whether the book worked or not is impossible to know, but I certainly never get cravings.

In fact, the only time I ever think about myself smoking is when I'm talking (typing) to others about quitting. And even that's not craving.

The chemical addiction leaves the body after ~10 days, the rest is psychological, so effects everyone differently I guess.

So, its been around 3 1/2 months now since I started this thread, and I'm still off the smokes, had a puff on one down the pub before Christmas and almost died but thats been it.

I'm still using the ecigs with and cutting down on the nicotine dose, now down to Tottally Wicked "Low" strength.

I hate the smell of smokers and have become the worlds worst reformed smoker.

The only way to win is to not play the game!

i.e. do not think about smoking

and also, do not think about how to not think about it either

My point is, nicotine addiction is extremely minor, the actual problem is the psychological addiction. If you keep thinking about it you will eventually loose, because theoretically you cannot win, as its either draw/loose (on a timeline)

Hence, you ignore it, and then you win!

....ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssBANG! :p

I never understand it...How can one get so hooked on something? It's a matter of filtering it out now?

My friend always said he's better at not smoking if he doesn't have one in the morning...I think? Or was it have one in the morning, goto work...then not actually need one cause he was to pre-occupied?

Saw the update ^^^

Ace :) Keep at it buddy, think of how bad it made you feel at Christmas...or better yet, think of the knives going down your throat on every drag feeling ;)

Keep yourself really busy. Hopefully you won't think about it.

Make it a challenge.

I used to bite my nails until my ex challenged me and said "i bet you can't stop biting your nails".

I've got one of Gary Dibbley's small box mods coming (hopefully) tomorrow. Looks like it'd be fantastic with an LR 510 atomiser. Can't wait!

I've heard good things about his mods. Been looking at his new version, the 101. It's a 5v thing. I've got some 5v batteries with a standard 510 atomiser in the Silver Bullet, and it's just amazing, loads of flavour and vapour, so the 101 is sure to be a good device.

I used to be a bit self-conscious about using an e-cigarette in public, now I take it everywhere, just started using it in the local bars, been no bother so far.

I've always wondered what these quit smoking books contain. Like is it things to put you off them (ie gross things) or just makes you change your view?

I read that Allen Carr book about 5 years ago, and after reading that, I did manage to quit altogether for about 10 months, a then record for me.

But, certain triggers sometimes happen in your life, and being an addict, they surfaced and I ended up back on the smokes.

The book itself is really good, there's nothing particularly gross in there, it's more mind games, changing your perception of smoking.

Yep, his stuff is awesome. The 101 is just a little too expensive for me to jump at right now, though!

Sitting with his USB passthrough at the moment and it's solid as a rock. Best passthrough I've ever seen or used.

I'm awaiting the tank system for my ecig atm, anyone tried it yet? and did it give as much smoke as normal?

I've not used it, but heard lots of good reports. It's definitely the way forward, I think there will be further revisions of it to get it perfected. In it's current form, there seems to be variances of flavour loss, and the throat hit is weak for some. (mainly those used to low resistance vaping)

Though the delivery system itself looks to be a winner. Lots of people happy with it

Anyone given up the smokes, and gone through this before offer advice?

I would say the patch is a better solution. The problem with the e-cig is it doesn't remove the mental aspect of the addiction as you feel an urge and reward yourself with the e-cig. The very first step that you have to go through is ridding yourself of the mental habit so that you can subsequently rid yourself of the physical cravings. The patch is on all the time, keeps you at a constant level of nicotine, and only has to be attended to once a day. The 24 hour one is the one to go for.

Then you can methodically step down to a lower dose of patch (by cutting the big ones in half/quarters etc, don't buy the smaller ones despite what the instructions say) and take yourself off the nicotine gently.

The Allen Carr book worked a treat for me. Previous quit attempts left me still wanting to still smoke even after weeks.

After reading that book it was always very fresh in my mind what a stupid thing smoking is. It changes you whole perception of smoking by drumming some ideas about it into you. The addiction side of it really isn't that bad once you believe/understand that.

My GF quit after reading it 16 months ago and my mother who smoked for around 30 years quit around 4 years ago after reading it. I havent touched once for 13 months and have no intention of.

haha!

They say that ex-smokers are the worst for moaning about smoking.

Even though it doesn't bother me, I kind of know what you mean about the smell thing, when you give up it's like rediscovering your sense of smell and thinking "Did I smell like that?!". Also, the taste buds coming back to life is another bonus. :)

We are, I quit about 5 months ago now, I did it with the 24h patches for 10 weeks. Not had a single one since the day I quit.

I did put on a stone though that's slowly going down again now.

I cant belive how much better I feel. I never knew how **** smoking makes you feel.

I cant stand the smell now, its bad when ALL my mates smoke!

To any one who is thinking about it, do it! Its a great feeling.

Speak for yourself. :p

I couldn't care less if people smoke or not, it's their choice, as it was my choice to smoke and my choice to give up. I'll offer support to those who want to give up, but I'm not going to go around preaching to those that do smoke and don't want to give up.
