Once this slush goes I'll be fitting my new wheels to the car, but before that I need to get a new set of tyres.

Now the standard tyre size is 195/55/15 front and 225/50/15 rear.

The new wheels are 7.5j 17" and the tyres that are currently on are 205/40/17 front and 235/40/17 rear.

What would be the ideal tyre size to run in order to keep the speedo calibration as near as possible to standard?

Also anbody tried Falken FK452? I've been recommended them by a few people and they seem well priced.

Stick in old vs new to figure out ideal sizes. It should give you a figure of how much you might be out, only works in IE though I think.

We've got 4 FK452 on the 9-5 and they're a decent all round tyre for the price. Internets peoples seem to like them on a range of machinery so worth a punt IMO.

Thanks for those links guys...

My speedo over-reads by a few mph anyway so can potentially get away with a bigger % difference than I originally though.

Looks like I'll be going for 205/40/17 front and 235/40/17 rear...although potentially 215 fronts may be a better option provided they'll fit without rubbing on full lock?

You might find 215 will be fine. My CTR wheels are 215 wide despite it coming fitted from the factory with 205. 215 is cheaper to get hold of but it did mean having to drop the profile from 45 to 40 as this altered the width altered the rolling radus. It's worth measuring the wheels just to see how wide they actually are. Whether they rub is down to the offset difference I suppose.

The wheels are 7.5j front and rear - not sure on the offsets actually, it'll be on the back of the wheels somewhere no doubt.

Find out your offsets and go 215/235. I got 452's on my MR2 and they are a very good tyre.

I had a 235 on the front of mine with no rubbing but it was very close and a et32 offset. a 215 should go on without any troubles.

Thanks for that cee, I'll go take a look when I can brave the cold and report back with the offset!

You need to get Ultra Super Snow Tyres now. It's the law on the internet. Infact buy a 4x4!

Don't be stupid, I don't need a 4x4.
How much are snow tyres though?

Okay the offset is the same for both wheels as they aren't staggered, 45.
Using the mr2 wheel calculator it's saying:

MR2 (mkii) Flushness:
Your proposed front wheel will be 16 mm tucked in from flush (flush offset: 29).
Your proposed front is 2 mm from possibly touching the front suspension.
Your proposed rear wheel will be 28.7 mm tucked in from flush (flush offset: 16.3).

Wheel Comparison:
Your proposed front wheel will stick out 19.05 mm farther than your old wheel.
Your proposed rear wheel will stick out 6.35 mm farther than your old wheel.

I'm thinking I'll probably need to run 10 or 15mm spacers for the rear wheels then, as the fronts will be sticking out more than the rears?

Offsets are very high mate.

Id try a 10mm spacer on the front and a 20mm spacer on the back. that will be offset et35 on the front and et25 on the rear. You wanna becareul the fronts don't over stagger the rear, even then the fronts stick out more that the rears.

Your proposed front wheel will be 6 mm tucked in from flush (flush offset: 29).
Your proposed rear wheel will be 8.7 mm tucked in from flush (flush offset: 16.3)

Also i think decent spacers that wide are not cheap at all.

I run at the moment a 16" wheel at the front with a et32 and 225/45 tyre and a rear 17" wheel with a et35 and a 255/40 tyre and thats pretty much bang on

These are my flush measurments
Your proposed front wheel will be 3 mm tucked in from flush (flush offset: 29).
Your proposed rear wheel will be 0.35 mm farther out than flush (flush offset: 35.35).

To be honest mate, its not gonna look that good with the wheels sitting so for into the arch well.

I have these on the zed. The 452's seem to last for a long time, grip well in all weather conditions and have only given me a rear end "wobble" on broken tarmac (most tyres would probably struggle with this). They go up to large sizes and I think a 19" rear tyre comes to £115 delivered when I last looked on camskill. So for the money, they are well worth considering.

Everyone raves about them on 350z forums and also heard good things on here.

Hmm...what a bummer - maybe I should cut my losses and stick with the standard wheels. I'll be paying the best part of £500 to refurb and re-shoe these wheels...

i'd sell them, then find a set of staggered wheels with much lower offsets ;)

Just need to find a buyer willing to refurb them, they're in need of it.
Does anybody else know what cars have the same PCD as a mk2 MR2? Perhaps they would suit a different car.

Most jap stuff I think. My dad's mr2 stood on my old standard s14 wheels whilst his were being refurbed.
