Tyre choices and prices....

I've got an 06 Focus, 1.6L TDCi, and the front two tyres need replacing in the next month or so. I had 2 tyres (Bridgestones) changed in Feb, these went on the back and the rears went on the front. My local garage has suggestged some Avon tyres for £140 fitted and STS Holborn have specced (in their words high end) the same Bridgestones as the rears for £160.

Firstly, are these typical prices for this level of quality? Any other tyres I should consider and prices?

The driving is sensible, mostly A roads and some motorway, generally 100-400/week depending on work.

When i had my focus (same spec as yours) i did 45k on the original Michelin's - not sure on the exact tyre model tho but they weren't one of these rubbish energy saving ones with no grip, so there good if you just want a good wear rate.

Otherwise these tend to have good things said about them

There's not an amazing choice in that size really, no Goodyear eagle F1 Asymetricals for example which is a shame

yep - and got 50k out of the rears

Remember it is a 1.6 diesel focus with only 110bhp!

And before anyone says anything, no i didn't wear them past the indicators they had just over 2mm left when i had them changed.

Not realy no  when your doing mostly motorway miles thats what you'd expect surely

Michelin's do have a high wear rate but they did grip better than the Avon ZV5's i replaced them with so i rated them quite well tbf

They must be terrible tyres to wear that slow, surely?
My dad got over 30k out of a set of Goodyear runflats on his E60 and they were still technically legal when they were changed.
50k does seem rather optimistic, but if it's sat at 70 on the motorway all its life and its a hard compound, I don't see why not..

I assume those prices are for 2 tyres/wheels...

(still stupidly high when I pay not a lot more for 4 V12 Evos fully fitted which are better tyres and I don't drive a 1.6 Focus)

I paid £64 for a P6000 yesterday in the same size they matched black circles prices, I get about 25k out of the fronts and 40-50k out of the rears on pretty much all the cars I've had

I only got 10k from a set of Goodyears in my 130 bhp car? 45k is remarkable, super hard compound! Good job it was all straight line work I wouldnt fancy my chances in a corner with them :p

Same set of tyres doing 10k in your hands could make 45k in anothers hands :D

Down to how you drive it more than the compound.

P6000s are rubbish though.
Why did you buy one? Did you get a puncture within a few thousand miles of getting a pair?

They are OK I must have bought 6 pairs on the Alfa and 2 pairs on the Mazda never had a problem, they came as standard on my Alfa and the Mazda so I've just replaced them, most of my driving is sitting in traffic so I'm more concerned about cost and keeping an even set in case I need to sell. If I had something more powerful I'd consider something else, even on my BB4 Prelude I had cheap Federal 595s and found them more that adequate.

I bought one as yes I had a nice roofing nail in the shoulder, and there is several thousand left on the other and I got anoyed with the bloke trying to sell me 4 plus alignment and pads etc
