Evening all,

I need some new tyres for the back of my Dturbo, its got 195/50/R15's on at the moment..

But they arn't matched, It was like this when I bought it, Probably not the best for handling either ??

One tyre is a Barum Bravuris and the other is a Uniroyal Rainsport 1

195/50R15 is the profile of the tyre correct ?

In the shed I've got a Part worn tyre thats done 100 miles ( Came off my sisters crashed car ( Spare ) thats 195/55/R15 Uniroyal rainsport 1 is it ok to fit this and get a new one fitted to the other side ? putting different profiles on each side isn't advisable ?

Wheels are standard Peugeot Cyclones.

The first number is width, second is aspect ratio (height to width) R is radial, 15 is the rim size.

So your tyres are a very slightly differant size to the one in the shed.

I've driven my ZX (Almost identical to yours) with one 175x65 and one 165x65 on the back axle since before christmas and not noticed a jot of differance.

Personally I wouldn't worry about using differant brands or slightly differant sizes on the same axle. Also bear in mind that the tyres on the same axle will need to be the same size for the MOT - i put the spare on mine for the test which is just about passable otherwise i'd have left it on.

If you get a matching tyre to the one in the shed you're totally OK. This may be better for you as your height will be slightly differant whereas i just had one slightly wider tyre on a bit like having a spacesaver.
 
Its only started worrying me since last night when the back end of the car came out..

I'm starting to wonder if the Barum tyre is softer / harder than the Uniroyal so it didn't grip aswell :S

I'm also unsure as the whether the " Cyclones " came with 55's or 50 profile tyres on from the factory, I think I will just get another new 55 profile Uniroyal and be done with it.
 
Was 195/55 R15 on my Xsara, which is very close to the 185/65 R14 on the steel wheels.

175/65 and 165/65 will have a different rolling radius, unless 65% of 175 is the same as 65% of 165?

I wouldn't mix a 50 and 55 profile on the same axle, something like 3-4% difference with a 15" wheel.
 
barums are a nasty piece of crap sold by national and their distribution side viking, please do yourself a favour and remove it post haste,

Reason i know this I used to work as a sales rep for stepgrades(national and vikings parant company)

get somethign decent and matched on it and it will feel like a new car and no dont let anyone tell you that mixing sizes is ok if its only a little bit out

this is ok to have 2 matching tyres on the front and then 2 different size but matching to each other on the rear your not allowed to have mismatched sizes of tyres on an axle

nice size and you should find plenty of cheap decent rubber easily enough try mytyre blackcircles etc and compare prices
 
The price difference between 50 and 55 profile is a bit nuts.. Whats all that about ??

Barum are continentals " Budget " brand according to what I've read.. But I still don't trust them :p

EDIT - £44 for 50 profile, £61 for 55 profile

Firstly, get rid of the Barum tyre. They're pants.

Secondly, don't ever have different sized tyres across on axle. It'll probably void your insurance and make the car handle badly. Always fit the correct size tyre for your rims too.

Thirdly, don't skimp on tyres. They are your connection to the road and will make the biggest difference to the way you car handles and brakes.

The price difference that you're talking about will be more to do with how common that size of tyre is.
