I've purchased some 15" wheels for the Astra (new one) and i'm having a bash at refurbing them myself. (as paradigm will know :p )

2 of the tyres have a couple of thousand miles left in them, the others are dead.

I am going to be putting new, lower profile tyres on the wheels, but to refurb them i need the tyres off to do a better job.

I don't really see the point in paying to get tyres removed that i'm not oging to need, use or sell on, so is there any danger of letting the air out of them, and cutting the tyres off?

Don't see any problem with that other than it may be a pain to cut through.

Thats where the trusty angle grinder comes in :)

I take it that its safest to let as much air out as possible before starting to cut ?

Just get it done! But be careful not to damage the rim of the wheel as this is what creates the air-tight seal between tyre and wheel ;)

I was just going to angle grind the tread area, and 3/4 way down the sidewalls then use a junior hacksaw to finish off!

you should be able to cut through the tyre, then use a crowbar (with appropriate protection)to get the rest of the tyre off.

Yes tyres are bloody stiff at the inner rim, I tried once and it was a bit of a mission to cut it off even a wheel i didn't care about too much.

They are suprisingly thick, anyway i daren't try and attack them anymore incase i catch any of the wheel itself, they are off to tyre fitters saturday to be removed so i can crack on with the refurb :)

If you find a small backstreet tyre fitters you should get them tyres off cheap, place near me i got em removed and disposed on a set of four for £1.50 a wheel.

Not bad really.
