Not being a true follower of the news in the mobile device world, would anyone be able to tell me what device is rumoured to replace the TyTn/Vario II, and when roughly one would expect it to arrive?

Ta!

more battery life wouldn't go amiss either!
Get the today screen plugin for changing from GSM to 3G, simple tap of the screen, if you leave it on GSM until you need the 3G speeds you'll get 3-4x the battery life.

See this forum topic;

In there is an app that makes it easy to change between GSM and WCDMA. On my phone I use GSM most of the time, until I need the speed of 3G for browsing, mail, using as a modem for my laptop, everything else is fine with just GSM and you get a dramatically longer battery life. The normal way of switching between GSM and WCDMA is a little more hassle hence the above app.

Also different revisions of the radio firmware can affect the battery life, other topics on the above forum have information on that, as well as a free tool to SIM and CID unlock the phone.
