Does anyone here use Beryl and Firefox? I am using the Smoothwheel extension. Without Beryl running, scrolling is as smooth as silk. With it running, it is sluggish and not smooth.

It is a known issue:

Unfortunately I cannot post in that thread because according to them, it is 'resolved'. In fact however, it isn't...

It is a show-stopper for me as I can't bear to use Beryl if it means that Firefox behaves so sluggishly.

I am using an nvidia Geforce4 Ti 4200 if that makes any difference.

I'm hoping that some Linux users still read this 'Mac' forum ;)

I would appreciate that :) Thanks in advance.

I just thought I'd give Ubuntu another go the other day, as I haven't seen Beryl before except in videos. It's certainly very impressive. Added to which, for some reason, Smoothwheel under Linux is MUCH smoother than it is in Windows XP or Vista. I have no idea why that should be the case, but it is really hard to go back to Windows after browsing in Ubuntu for a while. But only when Beryl is turned off... Suffice to say it would be ace if I could find a solution, if one exists :)

Oops I forgot about this thread :p Thanks for trying that out for me :) It's a shame you don't have a mouse as I think you'd only notice with the scrollwheel. If it does behave on your machine like it does on mine, you'd notice the difference easily because it's night and day.

I tried running Compiz instead of Beryl and it was the exact same deal with the jerkiness.

One day I'll get a version of Linux which just works without any fuss...!

Yeah it still needs some work for sure. The whole desktop is slightly sluggish (dragging the wobbly windows etc.) even though it is hardware accelerated and from searching the web I see others have found it the same. With Beryl/Compiz/XGL desktop disabled it's all much smoother and snappier. Which kinda defeats the object :)
