Ubuntu in a Business and Domain Integration

I also put this in the Linux section but here probably makes more sense.

Hi all,

I'm hoping for some advice regarding Ubuntu in a Business. From both a management and Windows Domain integration point.

We are using Ubuntu as the software we a running is supported on it.

So far...

  • I can install Cifs-util to access existing storage.
  • I can install the powerbroker identity services to join the domain. This will allow users to login with their domain account and map to the shares.
  • SCCM 2012 has a client which supports Ubuntu. This should allow Hardware and Software inventory.
  • I can use DD to take a image of ubuntu and deploy it via SCCM OSD.

We are talking about 7 Ubuntu computers at the moment. This a drop in the ocean compared to the thousands of Windows computers we support.

What is your advise?

Do any of you guys\girls use powerbroker identity services?

I want to know what other people are doing.

Are people using powerbroker identity services to bridge linux with Active Directory services?

Are others using SCCM 2012 with Linux sccm client and does it work well?

How are you deploying standardized build images of Ubuntu?

How do you handle patch deployment?

I know we are only talking about 7 computers at the moment but this has the potential to triple.
 
If used in a business you should really get an enterprise nix like RHL.

I get the impression there are plenty of businesses using Ubuntu? I'm guessing thats why they offer support services (Ubuntu Advantage) and tools such as Landscape.

Is anyone deploying linux using SCCM2012?

Are you using DD to capture the image?
