UEFA Champions League 2010/11 Matchday 5 *** Spoilers ***

Lennon was doing fantastically well before his lengthy injury spell, and now he's starting to pick up form again.

Remember when Stephen Carr was our best player? He suffered the same injury as Lennon and was never the same again. Lennon is beginning to show the odd spark of his old form but it's a long road to full recovery.

as has been said he was awesome just before injury and will find his form again. he's going nowhere :D
our back 4 needs a lot of work though

Fair enough, but my opinion was that he has always been ok but had a good month or two in the middle of that. I think he's eclipsed by every player surrounding him and Spurs could do better based on that.

To be fair Kabul and Gallas are looking to be forming a good partnership, and Dawson has returned to light training so we are OK for centre half's. I think its time Woodgate calls it a day, and its not looking to great for King either.

But the sooner Harry replaces Ekotto the better. He is so erratic, every so often he will do a good thing, but if we have aspirations for challenging for honours we need a better left back. Hutton is fair, but I'm sure we could find better.

Real Madrid being investigated for dodginess apparently.

Apparently, Mourinho told a couple of the players to pick up yellows so that they would deliberately miss the final group game, but give them a clean slate for the knockout stages.

i think we could replace both with better and use them for cup games or games where we have nothing to lose, down at half time etc because they do get forward well but their positioning is woeful at times

VdV 13 games 8 goals 5 assists
Bale 19 games 9 goals 9 assists

in all competitions.

Think that's correct.

Bale has 19 games 9 goals 3 assists.

League is 14 appearances 5 goals 1 assist(Bud fantasy prem league says 2 assists but everywhere else says 1, I'm guessing one was disputed and changed).

Its not bad, but he's only scored in 3 games, Stoke, Blackburn and a truly truly rubbish Arsenal, he's looked good in more games than that, but he's been incredibly quiet more often than he's been brilliant. Considering the team has basically gone through him and gives him a LOT of posession his assists are really quite bad for the crossing he does.

Same goes in the Champs league, against Inter, fantastic and got most of his goals and assists in 2 games. When he's good, he's very good, but he's quiet more often than he's brilliant at the moment, one of his league goals also should never have happened, VDV an assist also seeing as his assist consisted of him handballing it down for Bale to get a lucky goal.

VDV also got another handball controlled goal. VDV's assist/goal's are much more impressive though. He's averaging a goal or an assist every game played right now, 10 league appearances, 6 goals, 4 assists.

3 Champs league games, 2 goals, 1 assist, pretty fantastic so far.

Champs league would make Crouch look like a king aswell though wouldn't it, with daft hatricks against Young Bhoys iirc.

Bale looks good for the future but needs to score/assist in more games in the league than he is at the moment to be a "great" player. I think he still benefits from being a relative unknown player, which will quickly change. When a team plays into his direct style of play, high line, no cover, or are just crap defensively(Inter, Arsenal) then his direct running is very effective, when a team sits deeper and targets him for marking, fairly average players have contained him pretty easily so far.

Modric has 1 goal, no assists in the league, and one of each in the champs league, not fantastic but he helps "control" games with keeping the ball and not giving it away cheaply when the team is vunerable to a counter attack. He's very decent but I think the love in over him in here is a little OTT.

if pav and crouch had actually scored more of bale's crosses or been in better positions, the stats would look much better. i expect more conversions now defoe is returning.

Bale has made 114 crosses for one assist in the league, not exactly mind blowing even with only decent strikers (neither are poor players)

I've only seen Bale have one bad game at WHL this season and that was against Sunderland. Every other time it's been bad finishing from Crouch/Pav that's stopped him getting more assists.
