Rooney > Negredo
Richards/Walker > Arbeloa
Terry > Pique
Gerrard/Lampard > Busquets/Martinez
Cole > Alba (actually, Cole > every LB in the world)
Hart > Valdes/Reina

Thats about all I can think of who would get in that squad over those players. Someone else can probably make better options.

Looking at Spain defense, I can see them struggling on a decent counter attack which Italy can really do well with their players. Should be an amazing match as long as Spain don't play boring Tika Taka football.

Not really heard much of Juanfran, no idea what sort of player he is.

I edited that post not knowing you had posted. I didn't change it because of your post. I just thought long and hard about Rooney/Llorente.

Gerrard/Lampard are sitting defensive mids and same is Busquets. Only difference is Steve and Frank can score goals.
 
I think Arbeloa is probably a better defender than Walker and Richards as well.

As Pigeon said, Gerrard/Lampard can't be compared with Martinez and Busquets. You'd have to put them against Parker and I think they are both probably better (Busquets definitely is). The creative Spanish midfielders definitely have the edge over Lampard and Gerrard.
 
Most likely De Rossi will play in the center of a 3 man defence because of Barzagli injury, his played there before for Roma and done a good job so I don't think it will be a problem for Italy.

I wouldnt expect that to be honest -SG has said himself in one of the Gabby interviews he has to be more strict and sit back rather than going forward in each attack

Hart and Rooney (imo) are the only two possible players who could displace a spanish player in that squad and even then Rooney is debatable (allowing for current injuries)

Plus given how Lampard struggles to play with Gerrard (and vice versa) who says either would make a good fit anyway :D

Given how much experience that squad has in CM, I would also say giving youth a chance is a good thing to do, and another set (or two) of older legs isnt as good as youth and versatility

I guess Croatia and Ireland havent got a chance of getting out of the group even given how bad Italy have been playing recently , they will surely be 2nd

Cesc was brilliant earlier in the year, with a fantastic strike rate when used mostly as a striker. His form dropped off both as his position changed and as Messi started playing upfront more than anyone rather than more of a right winger/right sided striker. He's still an exceptionally good player, and he's been absolutely instrumental in both Spains cup wins.
