Suppose some country was to launch an attack on the UK. Other than the fact that we'd all panic I take it it's up to Tony and our General to do their work. But I can't imagine them working out a strategy in Number 10. It doesn't look fortified enough to withstand a bomb, although I may be wrong.

What I wanted to ask is, is there some underground lair in which the important people play their roles during an emergency?

I remember during the 911 attacks Bush was rushed to some underground mountain cave thingy in which he gave his speech.

Any info would be great :)

your thinking about Cheyenne Mountain, https://www.cheyennemountain.af.mil/

Over here, i'd guess it'd be one of the military bases, but you have to admit there's a difference with america in that there's a big area they can use, and a very large buffer zone, whereas in the UK secrecy would give more safety.

That was the place in the film "War Games" right, it was on just recently just a great film "Want to Play a Game" ;)

Its the place off Stargate, it might have also been in wargames, but I couldn't be sure as my Copy of the dvd is in my old house :(

I didn't realise this:

On July 28, 2006, the CMOC ceased to be an operational base; its functions have been transferred to nearby Peterson AFB. NORAD officials no longer feel there is a threat of an intercontinental nuclear attack which could disrupt operations. The facility is on "warm standby" and could be reactivated if needed.

Thats just because in the event of a Ori attack through the gate they want to be able to blow up the mountain without losing Norad...

I think there is a large underground complex in the south downs or somewhere similar where the government would retire to if there was a threat.

The ones under whitehall are now defunct i think, you can even go round them as members of the public.

Read the wiki link from MarcLister's post, PINDAR seems to be fully operational.

I didn't know about that one, but the whitehall one is closed down. Having said that PINDAR isn't the one that the government would stay in though, its just a military command post, not a full out shelter. There is another one somewhere in the UK that would actually be used long term if anything dreadful really did happen to the UK.

Thats a good point, we may know where the Military bases are but TBH the place where the PM would go would be highly classified and only a select few would know.
