*****UK FIRST - Just Arrived MSI HAWK Super-OC 1000MHz Core Cards!*****

470 same price as hawk 460, 470 is faster both on stock. Both can be overclocked with 470 having a bigger room for it seen as 950 is average ceiling for hawks and I believe at such high overclock power consumption is equal to 470.

I think msi got overexcited with the hole 460's selling like hotcackes.

Nice looking card.

A quick google search found a review that managed 988mhz core clock but for the price wouldn't you be better off getting a GTX470?

They can, and I saw these on a certain guy called Linus's channel. And I really wouldn't mind of of these :D

Linus only did unboxing of the card, none tests were provided by him.

Kind of pointless then really at that price point. Regular ones can reach 930ish with no problems

Bull****, have a read through 460s owners' thread, most seem to do 840-870 with voltage increases.

I know, youde have to be out of your mind buying one of these for £223 when you can but a 470 for the same price lol maybe if you dont of a decent psu but even then aregular one will do similur clocks.

(typin on ps3)

If you don't have a PSU able to power up a stock 470, don't even bother with overclocking the 460. A guy did a review of MSI Cyclone in these Forums and there are many reviews out there to prove that power consumption doubles with overclocking, no power savings for anyone who does voltage tweaks.

It became pointless the moment the price tag got to above £200...

True, much more than a 5850 and stock for stock they're not comparable, overclocking-wise even 950MHz on core is "only" 40% overclock over a stock core. Plus the price matches a 470 which is ridiculous.

But not guaranteed .

But it says 1GHz on the box :p

It's a very good card indeed, just not priced right. You can have two 460s 768MB for its price...

Was under the impression most do 900 comfortably?

so double pointless if a smaller psu is out of the question

"Possible but not guaranteed"

What a con. :o

This is really scandalous marketing from MSI in my opinion, they would do better to sell guaranteed 850-900mhz cards than to wave the 1000mhz carrot with no guarantee.

Well... I've ordered one!

And "yes" I know that I can't justify it when I could get a 470 for this price. But then again, if I wanted a 3KW fan heater, I would buy one (somewhat tongue in cheek here I have to say). And that most standard 460's clock pretty well anyway.

As the owner of a 260 GTX I most probably don't even need it for what I'm playing at the moment. But what the hell, I've had the BFG 260 GTX OC for the best part of 2 years now (appearing at a MM near you soon I suspect) and as it's my birthday in a month or so time... on the principle of "no pockets in a shroud" I pressed that "order it now" button.

Lets be honest folks... Whenever did "common sense" come into upgrading a PC? I shudder to think how much money I've "wasted" on PC components in the last 25 years + (yep... I'm that old).

I'll be VERY interested to see how this baby goes. Mind you, if I can't get 950MHz on the core without much hassle, then it might well be going back. As while getting 1 gig truly stable (anyone mention OCCT !?) is maybe going to be a bit hit and miss, from the revues I've read so far ... I think it's only fair to expect a fairly decent overclock. Just a shame at this money, that MSI do not appear to have cherry picked the GPU (well I can't find any mention that they have).

TBC as they say.

We live in interesting times.

PS. Certainly makes the Cyclone version look rather over priced.
PPS. Before trying to push this too far, I might take the precaution of switching my PSU into single rail mode.
