UK government boycotts Euro 2012 over Ukraine treatment of Tymoshenko

If you've not seen it - I'd strongly recommend watching this documentary on iplayer:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01jk4vr/Panorama_Euro_2012_Stadiums_of_Hate/

its an awful 'documentary'

i could go film a very similar documentary on any saturday during the football season in britain but it doesnt mean it would be showing a fair representation

theres racism all across the world in football. members of our own national team even.

thankfully its the minority rather than majority

All in the meantime whilst we sit aside and welcome Israel (non-euro btw wtf!) to join us in the Euro tournament, whilst their country commits apartheid against the palestinians. Nice and hypocritical.

Mahmoud Sarsak was arrested on 22 July 2009 while travelling from Gaza to the West Bank for a Palestinian national team match. He was arbitrarily detained and has not faced charge or trial since, yet has been imprisoned by Israel for almost three years.

25 year old Mahmoud is one of over 4,400 Palestinian prisoners who face arbitrary detention in appalling conditions. He began his hunger strike in order to draw attention to the unlawfulness of Israeli policies. He is now close to death, making the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of justice for himself and fellow Palestinian prisoners.

Mahmoud used to weigh 65kg and this has plummeted to 40kg. He is frequently in and out of consciousness and close to death. Independent doctors have not been allowed to assess him in the last week as Israeli authorities will not allow them to visit.
Mahmoud began his hunger strike on 19th March 2012. Since then, he has been transferred to 3 different prisons, held in solitary confinement and is now in a prison hospital.

Israel routinely arrests and arbitrarily detains Palestinian sportsmen. Where no charges are brought forward, it is presumed that Israeli actions are intended to disrupt Palestinian participation in sports. The Palestinian national football team appealed to UEFA in January 2011 for support, however, this has not been forthcoming.

International law does not permit Israel to move Palestinian prisoners into Israel, yet this is what Israel does repeatedly. This breach amounts to war crimes under the Fourth Geneva Convention.

I bet you £1000 you can't find a UK football game where large numbers of people are wearing swastika t-shirts.

Saying there's racism everywhere is a cop out. It's like classifying murder and GBH ass the same thing because they are both examples of bodily harm.

Our government are such a bunch of hypocrites. Did they boycott the olympic games in 2008? Of course not because we want China's money.

I don't know much about football in the UK - but out of interest - could you name which clubs you believe you could find an entire stand doing a nazi salute? or where fans will bring in huge banners bearing far right symbols? Or where Indian students could be beaten by several fans, in the open, without the police coming to their aid, arresting anyone or even taking a statement from the victims?

As far as I was aware Tottenham fans get called 'yids', rangers fans will insult the pope and Celtic fans will sing a load of Irish republican stuff... and all clubs will have a small group who will arrange to fight each other away from the ground... I didn't think the UK had anything quite as bad as the stuff shown on that documentary?
