UK PM 'worried' about games - Thread in Speaker's Corner

I don't believe violent games turn children into killers, but where I was allowed to play GTA1 before I was 18, I wouldn't let my children play the latest incarnation of it.
That's always been the case though, it's not something new for parents to now not allow kids to play these 18 rated games. It's the parents at fault in the first place for allowing them to play the games.

The country is full of clueless, poor parents (most of which are too young to have had kids anyway) and know no better. I won't throw out a bold statement and tar everyone with it, but the saying "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree" would certainly be testamount to a lot of the parents around these parts where it's worse than anywhere else I've seen in the country.

thats funny because Im worried about the prime minister.

"Dies laughing" :D

Edit; Productive comment, If the government or the major media is going to start making decisions/reporting about games then I reckon it wouldn't do any harm to start employing people who know what they are talking about? Ie. people who have played the games and can make judgments or at least relevant arguments etc. Media included here because whenever they report on these sorts of things (read gaming) the dire faillage makes me cringe. Goes of to form the IGP (Independent Gaming Party) and appoints a minister for FPS lol

Violent Games = Violent Players = Violent Community = Violent Towns = Violent Countries.

All crime within the last 24 years can be attributed to video games.

Really?

V1N.

EDIT: Ah well, wasted my 1,000th post on that, and I was going to do a serious one about how religion is far worse at creating violent people, and teaching kids that it's ok to go around killing people if they don't believe in your opinion.

Brown should concentrate on kissing EU's butts and ignoring those living in the UK. He's good at that.

That was exactly my point. My parents knew what I was like, I was mature enough in the first instance when initially refused to play/buy it to accept their decision - I didn't nag but asked later down the line and was allowed.

One one hand I tend to think that this whole thing is reminiscent of the book burnings at the turn of the last century and the video nasties brigade of the eighties, but then I see people on forums like these saying they let small children play violent games or games like GTA with sexual content and I really think that the parents are to blame for this whole thing.

There wouldn't be this much fuss in the media regarding the issue if the age rating system kept the content for the intended audience IMO.

Thought I would post it in here as that speakers corner thread is dead !!!
