If this comes to pass then Russia is going to implode.

On the one hand if he had declared war with Ukraine, as a state it would be legal if immoral. However by invading without a declaration of war and terrorising civilians with bombing and shelling it becomes a terrorist act.

Countries don’t declare war anymore. I can’t think of any post WWII.
There must be some?
That’s not stopped countries being at war, nor does ‘terrorism’ come into it.
Or are we playing buzzword bingo?

Can't say I'm that surprised it's started, I thought Russia might take another week to prepare but with all the weapons that are going into Ukraine I guess Russia wants to strike now before Ukraine gets too strong.

From what I've read, throwing demoralised troops that have just been battered and forced to retreat straight back into the frontline is generally considered a poor military strategy. With rain expected too, won't they hit the exact same problems as before? Rich pickings for the tractors.

story on people geo tracking their stolen air-buds back into russian territory; equally deploying spyware on plundered phones would be an interesting intelligence gathering strategy.

Where does it say "Ukraine should be in the EU by next week"?

"Handing Zelenskiy a questionnaire which will form a starting point for the EU to decide on membership for Kyiv, she said: "It will not as usual be a matter of years to form this opinion but I think a matter of weeks." Zelenskiy said he would come back with answers in a week."

I have, did you? Even the part you've quoted doesn't say "Ukraine should be in the EU by next week".

Took you 3 seconds to do what? Post an article that rubbishes what you said? Well played.

Am I reading the same article? It clearly reads that within weeks ukraine will likely be given "Candidate status", not fully in the EU. there will be many hoops and hurdles before they are full EU members, and that will take much longer surely?

Deuse has a track record for these kinds of things, just ignore.

Indeed. Ukraine won't be admitted until years after the war is over. I expect it'll get an easier route in than most countries, but leaders around the EU won't be willing to let them in until they're suitably prepared for alignment, nor will they want to risk triggering the EU's defence commitment against Russia over the ongoing conflict. Ukraine, even pre-invasion, wasn't in a condition to be quickly included and it will be even less so now and in the aftermath. They will be kind words and symbolic gestures, maybe inclusion in the Customs Union, but no actual admission probably into the 2030s.

Admission to the EU typically takes a decade or more even in good circumstances.
