Has there been any work on the Makarov yet?

Very strange situation - people with access to decent satellite imagery say there is no evidence of it being hit or sunk near where claimed, being hit or sunk not backed up by any government or agency, etc. but also no OSINT sources, etc. have been able to find its current position - it seems to have vanished.

There are also verified sources for there being some kind of emergency situation at Sevastopol port around that time but no evidence of emergency communications, etc. in line with a military ship being under attack or sunk.

EDIT: I wonder if something else has happened to it, being covered up by muddying the waters, crew mutiny, some kind of live fire incident involving another nation, etc. etc.

It’s almost like someone who knew what they were doing trained the Ukrainians and the Ukrainians remember how to stage multi-layered assaults.

My guess is that we ( and the Americans ) are helping Ukraine far more than is known to the press. I suspect we have our best tacticians on the job. We probably know if a rabbit steps out from behind a bush and communicate that with the Ukrainians. It would also not surprise me at all if we have special forces operating some of the equipment and or collecting information and or taking out specific targets. I mean this is pretty standard stuff for the special forces. I don't believe they would get caught and if they did, well, they are just volunteers, right? I mean the Ukrainians have been ahead at every step of the game and that seems just a tad unlikely.

After Crimea you can guarantee the west has been preparing for this. No way would Ukraine be this successful on their own. They’ve known where every single Russian unit has been at any one time, including knowledge of every units capabilities and weaknesses. It will only get tougher for Russia from here as Ukraine is taught how to use the big stuff and now access routes are under low threat in the western parts of the country.

Of course, I would assume there are Nato special forces, SAS, Seals, Grom etc on the ground in relatevly safe areas organising and co-ordinating strikes etc.

I don't think it's any coincidence Putin has sent forces to look for the SAS they believe is operating inside Ukrain.

Bit harsh re the drone strike but it does seem war tourist and political image motivated rather than being helpful to Ukraine

I'd say its a rather important way of America demonstrating their support to Ukraine. It's also a massive morale boost for the Ukrainians and an FU to the Russians, it shows the US trusts her safety within the country.

I'd say the aid they've received and will continue to receive as well as intel being given is far more an important way of showing America supports Ukraine than Joe's wife going to most remote part of Ukraine for a photoshoot ever will be

There's more than one form of support. Materiel is important but so is morale.

It's a real middle finger to Russia as well. The country they're trying to eradicate is able to welcome diplomats at will.

Maybe if she'd gone to Kyiv like literally everybody else important has done and not at a place that is literally 90 meters away from the border

Seems Russia is having issues dealing with fires that the military usually assists with but can't because they're tied up in Ukraine

The first lady of Ukraine makes her first public apperance since the outbreak of the war and met Jill Biden today in the western city of Uzhhorod

If there allowing the first ladies to make pubic appearances they must be pretty confidant on security.

I'm sure it will be paraded in Moscow on the 9th.. :D

Looks like the central structures, including the earlier action, has taken quite a hit.

Something I find a bit confusing though - Ukraine claimed Russia had basically levelled all the structures on the island early on in this war - which doesn't appear to be the case.

(I'm assuming the impacts to the bottom of the island as per the image above is from the older Russian bombardment, aside from the one where the Mi-8 got hit, there also appears to be at least one significant bit of damage near the top I'm not sure the origins of).

EDIT: That doesn't seem right as an older image only shows some destroyed buildings in the centre.

First thing that happens in a real war is the press get muzzled. Iraq was not on the same level. Did the Yanks stop in Vietnam when they got body bags coming home? I suppose our soldiers never raped, murdered or looted either.
So the first and second gulf wars ? We're not 'real wars' ?

Just because western forces rofl stomped the Iraqis doesn't mean it doesn't count, lots died, lots of complex planing and 100,000 + troops and equipment were in theatre.

So why don't they count as a war?

There was plenty of free press during both, fact.

Apparently Bono from U2 is singing for the Ukranian people at the Khreschatyk subway station (now a bomb shelter) in Kiev.

Jill Biden could be in the middle of Vvostol and the Russians would stop shelling in a second.
There is no way they are going to risk harming the USA's first lady.
