Amongst other things Russia was building up troops opposing to Ukraine long before there was any real talk of Ukraine being part of NATO. Russia can't both create the grounds which has pushed Ukraine towards NATO and get upset about Ukraine moving towards NATO claiming that is why they invaded.

As to his dead Russian soldiers point - Russia never gave any intention of withdrawing, unfortunately very clear to anyone who was paying attention like Ben Wallace for example - so how he thinks there was any possibility of Russia pulling back I dunno - we'd all like to think it could be an outcome but the reality is there was no realistic path to that.

Russian state media is literally signed off by the Kremlin, likely directly from Putin right now. That doesn't mean that it is reflecting his thoughts exactly but Russian state TV is certainly not saying anything that Putin objects to having said.

I think a lot of fliers really dislike it when they are forced to give it up as their primary job, either due to age or getting a promotion so it's probably not a surprise that someone who was a pilot upon joining a "mercenary" (aren't Wagner just Russian military with a different uniform, actual pay, and deniability when they commit warcrimes) does the job they like the most.

I dunno, I've heard the stories of people not wanting promotions etc.. but this guy is a bit older, he's a retired general (who has already crashed one plane when in the Russian military) and probs should have stopped flying a while ago.

AFAIK it's not generally common for western generals (or equivalent - air marshal, admiral ranks etc.) to take flying roles in PMCs, these would mostly be helicopter-based roles granted (though Executive outcomes/sandline had access to jets in the 90s IIRC) + there are contract ex-military pilots in non-operational roles, test pilots etc... A general would tend to be senior management or on the board of directors of a PMC or defence company if involved with one.

Wagner are a PMC/mercenary organisation, not part of the Russian military, though the Russian government is obviously a big client of theirs - for a comparison think of the (controversial) US company formerly known as Blackwater and their big contracts for the US government for example.

The way he twists the narrative, retelling things with a spin, I can see why some who can't or don't bother to think it through could be convinced by what he is saying... anyone remotely intelligent simply reposting it either supports the worst of the Russian regime or has to be doing so for their own perverse amusement which is unfortunate to see.

(Unfortunately there are some truths in there as to the corruption in politics, etc. but it doesn't fundamentally change the story here).
