Ukraine gives food and materials control to Russia which they can then use as power over the West. His new world order as he compares it to the end of the USSR is for Russia to retake its place in the world and not sink into insignificance. Ironically his actions in Ukraine are going to cause the latter it’s just the Russian people haven’t realised it yet. What is interesting is Pooty saying a fully clean green future (energy supplies) is against Russias national interest. Which hints at why Ukraine is so attractive - as a secondary economic and political power (grain) source.
Wonder how long that will last if there is a period of colder weather and/or what happens this time next year.
Hang on, if he says he's not going to do something then...
Back in reality he's a prolific liar potentially capable of anything, all his bluster then his calmness etc.. is all just for show, there isn't necessarily any substantial underlying change in the risk, especially when it comes to Crimea.
Russia has invented new defences against western ATGMs
Behold, the cope bucket!
You may laugh but if it's stupid and it works it isn't stupid. If it doesn't work, then it's just stupid, of course.
I'm guessing this is the B61s? If so this has been planned for years.
It would be interesting to know what percentage that is.
This is pretty much the point. We are OK this winter unless it's a massively long cold one, but the storage was filled with Russian gas which won't be there next time. Consumption is going to have to come down and neither we or Europe have faced up to that yet. The extra LNG capacity will take time.
It would be interesting to know what percentage that is.
Ukraine says around 400 drones have already been used by Russia, from a total order of roughly 2,000 weapons.
All a bit like the plot of The Forth Protocol.
If we think Russia will stop once they are done with Ukraine then I wouldn’t be too sure. The US used to bury nuclear mines in typical Cold War fronts like West Germany and between North and South Korea. At least these are a bit more controllable and can be kept safe.
^^^ I don’t think we have to worry this much about Russia’s military competency. Can a Moisin-Nagant shoot down a satellite?
